I have always been fascinated by huge sculptures. The statue of liberty is a great example of one. Another is the four presidential heads on Mt. Rushmore. But there is something bigger, much bigger that we don't hear much about and that is the sculpture of Chief Crazy Horse. We are talking about a sculpture so huge it dwarfs the Mt. Rushmore sculptures. I guess by now you are thinking that the American Indian is responsible for it, if that is what you think, you are correct. Tribe elders decided to hire one of the sculptors that worked on Mt. Rushmore. The sculpture is not finished yet, but the head alone, which is finished, is already bigger than the Mt. Rushmore sculptures. The project was started in 1948 by a Polish American and when it is finished it will be 563 feet high and 641 feet long. When a History Channel program spoke of what would happen to the earth after man was gone, the program stated that Mt. Rushmore and the Great Pyramid would be the last things to go. No mention was ever made of the Chief Crazy Horse Memorial, I wonder why? By the way, the Indians have refused all government funding for the project. When asked why they refused the government's money, they stated that the government has a bad record of keeping promises to Indians

I can't help but get interested when I find articles and people talking about things like ancient nuclear war and ancient chemical war. A researcher claims that he has found evidence of the ancient use of chemical warfare. It is not exactly as I would have imagined it, but it is there never the less. Archaeological evidence shows that twenty Roman soldiers were killed by chemical warfare near the end of the empire. They died in a mine in the city of Dura-Europos in Syria around 256 A.D. The city was in Roman hands, when it was attacked by the Sasanian Persian Empire. The Sasanians threw everything they had at the city. They even built tunnels under buildings to make them collapse, a technique that lasted into the middle ages and was used against castle walls. The Romans would counter this by building tunnels of their own. It was in one of these tunnels that the remains of the twenty dead Roman soldiers were found. The bodies were piled up because the Persians had used them to make a wall to hold off a Roman counter attack. They held off this attack by setting fire to a combination of sulfur crystals and bitumen. This caused dense clouds of choking gas. They used bellows to pump the clouds of gas toward the oncoming Romans soldiers.

Scientists think that they have found something extremely unusual, a double black hole. They found it while sifting through data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, also known as the SDSS. They believe that two super massive black holes are revolving around each other at very high speeds and are less than one light year apart. The scientific community has wanted to build a device called LISA for a long time. It would be a gravitational wave detector and it is currently being constructed in a joint effort between the European Space Agency and NASA. Supposedly this device would be able to sense the effects on spacetime of super massive black holes that are spiraling together, or merging anywhere in the visible universe. One problem for the project has been that no one knows how often events like this occur. Not one was discovered before this and while that is what this new discovery seems to be, scientists are still not 100% sure. Getting funding for things in hopes of being able to examine something that is yet undiscovered is particularly difficult in these hard economic times. One black hole is moving toward us and the other away. The mass of these monsters has been calculated to be 20 million and 800 million suns. There have been other discoveries of what might be twin black holes but nothing like this because of their distance apart, so they just didn't fit LISA's criteria, that is why scientists are saying that nothing like this has ever been discovered before.

More news on the Anthrax attacks in the U.S. is now available. Near the end of last year the FBI felt that the person responsible for the attacks had committed suicide. I find this interesting, because I never heard anything about the FBI finding out who was responsible for these attacks in the first place. The man they suspected was an employee of the USAMRIID labs at Fort Detrick, Maryland. So why did the FBI believe that they had found the person responsible? First of all he had a history of over 20 years of research with anthrax and not only had the knowledge to do this, but he had the equipment. He also had access to the area where the exact spores that were used, were kept. He worked unsupervised. When he worked overtime, it turned out that he had no valid reason for doing so. Before the anthrax attacks began, he usually never worked at night. It is said that he had serious mental problems which included impulses to commit murder. Is the FBI correct, did this guy do this dirty and deadly deed? We have no way of knowing for sure, but the evidence that the FBI presented, while circumstantial, could be construed to show that he did it.

Snake

An ancient fossil has been found. It is of a snake. So what you say? Well this is quite an unusual snake. It was bigger than a bus, weighed between one and two tons and ate crocodiles for appetizers. Scientists were amazed at this find. The animal lived about 60 million years ago in the tropical rainforest's of Columbia. Wow, you wouldn't have wanted to walk through that forest. The length of the creature was estimated to be up to 15 meters. One scientist stated, "Truly enormous snakes really spark people's imagination, but reality has exceeded the fantasies of Hollywood." "The snake that tried to eat Jennifer Lopez in the movie Anaconda is not as big as the one we found." The snake's remains were found in an open pit mining operation in Columbia. Since reptiles can not regulate their body temperature, they are bigger in warmer climates, because of this scientists can estimate the temperature in the area 60 million years ago, where the snake remains were found as being 30-34 degrees Celsius. For us living in the U.S. that means that the temperature in Fahrenheit at the time was 86-95 degrees. Here is a question that I have never seen asked before, if the world's temperature was to go back to those previous levels, would dinosaur like creatures evolve again?

ADS

The U.S. Active Denial System or ADS is being talked about again. So what exactly is the ADS system. Supposedly it is a non lethal system that makes it so uncomfortable for people that they can't wait to disburse. It uses electromagnetic radiation. In other words in works like a microwave oven. When it is aimed at a crowd and turned on, it excites the water molecules in the skin and causes a burning sensation. It is certainly not pleasant. The frequency it uses is much higher than a microwave oven which used 2.45 GHz since it uses 95 GHz. When an Air Force spokesperson was asked what the effect of the weapon felt like, here is what they said, "For the first millisecond, it just felt like the skin was warming up. Then it got warmer and warmer and you felt like it was on fire.... As soon as you're away from that beam your skin returns to normal and there is no pain." Supposedly this device has been tested for over 12 years and all tests on long term effects have been inconclusive, according to the military. Right now this weapon is only vehicle mounted, but a small, hand held version is being perfected and you can expect to see it in use with the military and police forces sometime in the future.
