Secret Military Construction

Many countries believe that they need deep underground bases, or at least secret ones, for protection of their military secrets and maybe their civilian and military leaders. This is not unusual. Throughout history, man has depended upon fortifications and what better time to build them, than peace time? Look at some of the secret bases that are currently in the U.S. Some are cold war vintage, some date back to the Civil War and there are even some from before we became a country. Along with this rather old military construction, we have up to date, modern construction. Look at what is going on at Area 51. It has been modernized and many building added and there are quite a few anonymous sources that claim that more exists below ground than above.

Here is a good one for you. There is one country in the world that has both Russian and U.S. bases, do you know which one it is? I can't blame you, I didn't know either until I read it, it is Kyrgyzstan. I bet not only are the Russians unhappy about this, but this country borders China and they must also be ticked. These are not secret bases, far from it, but they are a thorn in the side of the one former communist country and one Communist country. When the cold war ended and the Soviet Union split up, the U.S. raced to these countries that were part of the former Soviet Union to see if they could get permission to set up bases. I guess this must have felt like a golden opportunity to these cash starved countries because several went along with this. One as we already know, was Kyrgyzstan and the others were Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. There are now many U.S. bases in the former Soviet Union and this has to irk the Russians.

When we think of Area 51 we usually think that only the U.S. has such a base, but nothing could be further from the truth. Take Russia for example. They have a very secret complex in Yamantau Mountain. The site seems to have been under construction since 1997 and a discussion of it appears in the Congressional Record. The sheer size of the project seems to worry observers who suspect there is something very sinister about the base. It is underground and is extremely large. It has been compared to the size of Washing D.C. inside the Beltway. The New York Times stated that the project of constructing this base employed thousands of workers and was serviced by a railroad and highway. From what I have seen about this complex I can only compare it to a survival bunker that would protect the Russian government in case of nuclear war. The question is, are there more of these in Russia? One military expert thinks that up to 200 exist. I imagine they would be of varying sizes, if that is so, but we have our underground facilities also. Look at Cheyenne Mountain or Mount Weather, to mention just a couple. Why this frenzy to construct underground bases at such an accelerated pace?

A Time reporter described Mount Weather as having an above ground appearance of about 12 buildings. There is a helicopter pad nearby. He goes on to say that the secrets to this base are under the ground. Supposedly there is an underground city here. When I say city, I mean a city with buildings, hospitals, cafeterias and even a lake. It is said that this is a command center for FEMA, The Federal Emergency Management Agency. Why would a civilian agency need such an underground complex? Well here is what experts think. It is said that there are at least 100 other facilities of the same type spread out near and on the east coast. It is felt that they are all part of the Continuity of Government program. The idea is that they were created to protect those in charge of our government in case of nuclear war. The big boys would go to Mount Weather and I guess the local guys, to one of the other spots and the poor saps like us would stay and eat the blast. I wonder if the lobbyists have permission to go also? Anyway, that is what the current thinking on the use of the underground bases would be. So it looks like we are involved not in a cold war, but in an underground base construction war.

The underground base building boom is not just confined to Russia and the U.S. however. There are other countries digging holes and constructing fortified underground bases. There is a book out, Underwater & Underground Bases Surprising Facts the Government Does Not Want You to Know by Richard Sauder, that states that Britain along with the CIA is involved in building bases under the sea floor. It also states that the U.S. now has Submarine Maintenance facilities under the sea floor. Actually this would not be so far fetched, when you think about it. I don't know how it would be built, but if the tunnel between England and France could be built, then why not an under the sea base? Maybe a series of huge pipes could have been sunk and then somehow blown out and capped with air chambers and or huge pressure doors Enough of these huge tubes and you have a base. It would be like building a space station, only a little harder.

It has been said that China has also been building underground bases and that one in particular is near the Chinese, Indian border. The locals have reported seeing large amounts of Chinese troops in the area. Another Chinese underground base that has been reported on, is an underground submarine base. The Washington Times ran a story on February 16, 2006 that described how a commercial satellite accidentally photographed the secret Chinese underground tunnel. A representative of the U.S. government commented on the article by saying that the U.S. has all sorts of data on these Chinese bases, but has never made it public and that this was the first time the public was made aware of it. He went on to say that China even has underground air strips and it is believed that some of these underground facilities are storing nuclear weapons.

It is said that even the Swiss have built facilities into the side of a mountain that is strong enough to resist most nuclear attacks. It is said that the facility is huge and can accommodate huge amounts of military and civilians. It seems that every nation is expecting the worst or at least preparing for it. Are we in trouble? you bet we are. Are there just too many nukes falling into unfriendly hands? Yes to that also. Is this what is prompting all this underground construction? It looks that way. The world is expecting a nuclear war and each country is trying to survive it with their underground bases.
