When I got to the flight deck of the Intrepid I was astounded to find an SR-71 Blackbird. I had never seen one of these beauties up close and would have made the trip just to see it, even if it was the only plane on the deck. The plane was huge, possibly the biggest one pilot plane ever made. It was at least as big as a Boeing 707. Even today it looks like something from out of the future. It was listed as having a top speed of Mach 3.5. That is 3.5 times the speed of sound. It was said to have cruised at Mach 3. You are looking at one of the fastest machines ever built. I say one of, because we ordinary folk know nothing about the Aurora, it's supposed replacement.
There are many other great planes on this carrier, let's take a quick look at them. Here are some planes that are inside the hanger deck.

Now we climb back up to the deck to view the planes up there. The planes are lined up on both sides of the deck, there must be about 25 of them. This is an approximate count.

Now we will take a look at the Concordee. The Concordee is on a separate ship and is on the opposite side of the dock. I was allowed inside the plane.

There are a few other objects on the grounds such as the submarine Growler. It sports a Regulus Missile.

Unfortunately the submarine is closed to the public until further notice so I couldn't get onboard. It would have been interesting to get some interior photos.

Well so much for the museum, it was fun and very interesting. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
