Nazi Propaganda

The Nazis were a mean spirited group and vicious murders. Hitler even had some of the people killed that helped him get into power. He used them to get what he wanted and then destroyed them. When all was said and done, he had a group of parrots left. They pushed Hitler's programs and in at least one case, went even further. Himmler, the head of the SS, pushed Hitler's programs even further along while including some of his own. One thing the Nazis were proficient at was speech making. Here are some of the lines from their speeches:

Joseph Goebbels was the second Chancellor of the Third Reich. He took over when Hitler died. Prior to that he was the Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. He had written many articles and made many speeches. On New Year's Eve of 1939 Goebbels made a speech. The war had just started and Germany was winning fast.

Goebbels stated, “On 31 March, soon after the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, London hate papers printed lies about German troops gathering on the Polish border. Chamberlain reported to the House of Commons on English-Polish negotiations, and gave a formal declaration of British support to Poland. The London warmongering clique thus gave Warsaw the freedom to act, in the secret wish that Warsaw would begin the conflict that the London plutocrats needed in order to begin their long desired and carefully prepared military measures against the Reich”

As we all know today, the German troops were gathering on the Polish border and attacked Poland and overran it. To further justify a move on Poland Goebbels said, “…..One can understand this only after learning that on 15 May the Polish War Minister Kasprzycki was in Paris for secret talks, and that the German representative in Warsaw reported to Berlin on 8 May that maps were being distributed in Polish cities that showed the border moved into German territory past Beuthen, Oppeln, Gleiwitz, Breslau, Stettin and Kolberg”

In another speech by Goebbels on New Year's Eve, 1943, His tone was changing somewhat. He said the following, “The year 1943 is nearing its end. It will never be forgotten by us who fought and worked and lived through it. It was the most difficult year of the war so far, one that subjected us to great moral and material tests. It gave us the task of holding that which we conquered in our glorious offensives of the earlier war years, which is the foundation of our final victory, and of defending it against the raging storm of our enemies with courage and without wavering. In large part we succeeded. We have had it is true to accept losses and setbacks, but they in no way are decisive for the outcome of the war, nor are their causes to be sought in any failure in our morale or material during this long war. “

Did Goebbels realize in 1943 that Germany could not win the war? He must have had an inkling.

He always gave a speech on Hitler's Birthday and here is the a tiny bit of what he said on the last one he gave in 1945. “At the moment of the war when — so it seems — all forces of hate and destruction have been gathered once again, perhaps for the final time, in the west, the east, the southeast and the south, seeking to break through our front and give the death blow to the Reich, I once again speak to the German people on the eve of 20 April about the Führer, just as I have done every year since 1933. That has happened at good and bad times in the past. But never before did things stand on such a knife's edge, never before did the German people have to defend their very lives under such enormous danger, never before did the Reich have to draw on its last strength to protect its threatened self. “

He certainly knew at this point that all was lost. It makes you wonder why he would have started the speech this way. I am sure that Hitler didn't want to hear this?

Hitler, in one of his many speeches was talking about why he formed the Axis, “The hatred of this international world conspiracy was directed not only against us, but also against those peoples who also had been neglected by Fortune, who could earn their daily bread only through the hardest struggle. Italy and Japan above all, alongside Germany were almost forbidden to enjoy their share of the wealth of the world. The alliance between these nations was therefore only an act of self-defense against a threatening, egotistical world coalition of wealth and power. “

In the same speech he gave his reason for invading Russia and at the same time fanned the flames of hatred against the Jews. “You probably all felt that this was a bitter and difficult step for me. The German people have never had hostile feelings toward the peoples of Russia. During the last two decades, however, the Jewish-Bolshevist rulers in Moscow have attempted to set not only Germany, but all of Europe, aflame. Germany has never attempted to spread its National Socialist world view to Russia. Rather, the Jewish-Bolshevist rulers in Moscow have constantly attempted to subject us and the other European peoples to their rule. They have attempted this not only intellectually, but above all through military means. “

It is amazing that people in Germany could actually buy this baloney, but many of them did.

Hermann Goring

Hermann Goring was said to be enjoying his position in the Nazi government and using it to enrich himself. There are tails of his keeping a jar of jewels on his desk, that he like to pick up and look at. He delivered a speech to the NSBO, a Nazi labor organization after Hitler was in power for two months. Here is the last paragraph of his speech, “We want to live, and therefore we will live. There is a vast field of ruins before us. Everything has collapsed. Wherever one looks, things have been undermined, hollowed out, broken, become rotten. Small steps have already been taken. A little has been cleared away, here and there is the start of firm ground on which one can build. But the destruction extends far, far to the horizon, with wasteland everywhere, everything in ruins. My people’s comrades, you are used to working, and therefore in the coming days there is but one slogan: work, work, and still more work for our people, and for our fatherland that must be rebuilt. Get to work, and may God bless our labors!

I find it interesting that Goring would call on God, especially living in Nazi Germany. Little did he know that his description of a ruined and broken land would apply more to Germany at the end of the war than it did in his speech.

When the Americans entered the war against Germany they also became fodder for Nazi propaganda. Professor Werner Sombart wrote, “One can rightly say that the United States owes what it is entirely to the Jews: that is, its American nature. What we call Americanism to a large degree is nothing other than the influence of the Jewish spirit.”

Why did the Nazis hate the Jews? It turns out that when Hitler was homeless and living in Austria, he was supported by many different people and some of them were Jews. You would have thought he would have been grateful, but he wasn't. He had met a man who hated Jews and befriended him and this man had a philosophy that Jews were responsible for the ills of the world. Hitler used his hate of the Jews to unite Nazi Germany by giving them a scapegoat for their problems.

Were the Nazis smart? Some were very smart, but Hitler wasn't one of them. He didn't even have the sense to let the generals plan the war. He felt that he had to micro manage everything, right down to some of the battles. This was a blessing for our side, since his mistakes made it possible to win the war, or at least end it earlier.
