That Other Big UFO Crash

Most of us have been hearing about Roswell and the ufo that crashed there, all of our lives. It has probably been the most written about ufo event that there has ever been, of course some would say non event. It not only has permeated ufo folk lore in this country, but also in the rest of the world. People have been trying to prove it true since roughly the 1970s. It did occur in the late 40s but became popular much later on. Nothing has ever been proven, although different versions of what happened have been released by the military, further clouding the event. So much time as passed that it is doubtful that anything new will ever be learned about it.

But Roswell was not the only area where a ufo was said to crash in this country. There was another site that was said to contain sixteen burned bodies of aliens and a large space craft. As happened with Roswell, years later it is becoming more popular. The crash of the ufo was said to have taken place in Aztec, New Mexico on March 25, 1948. I find it interesting that this occurred almost at the same time as the Roswell crash, both being about only a year apart and both being in New Mexico. Is this just a coincidence or is there some reason for this? New Mexico is one of those states that has a small population, making it ideal for conduction military tests and flyovers. I am not saying that this was something created by our military, I am just stating a fact.

A few witnesses are said to still be alive, but one has to wonder how accurate their memories of the event are by now. One witness has said that he was a boy at the time and had a paper route. He claims to have remembed the paper coming out with a story of a crashed object in Hart Canyon but said that a retraction came out a few days later saying it was just a hoax. Again the parallel to Roswell is amazing. In Roswell a paper had come out with a story that a flying disk had crashed and a couple of days later a new story appeared stating that it was only the remains of a weather balloon. It is almost like someone said, "hey the deception worked once, let use it again." The news paper articles were never found.

A second event in the area occurred on March 19, 1950. What is known as a UFO Armada was seen flying over the city of Farmington, New Mexico. There sure seems to have been a lot of activity by ufos in the early years after World War II in New Mexico. Some have attributed this to the fact that we had a nuclear armed bomber wing in New Mexico and it was the first in the world to be so armed. We all know now that many ufo reports of sightings have taken place over nuclear facilities and rocket facilities. Even nuclear power plants were not immune to this type of flyover. The Armada was said to be composed of over 30 saucer shaped ships and they were said to have hovered over the city.

So exactly what went on at Aztec, New Mexico on that fateful day of the crash? A witness claims that a road that leads to Hart Canyon was created by the military especially for the purpose of moving in heavy equipment to recover a ufo that had crashed there. Supposedly there were sixteen bodies inside of extraterrestrials, but they had all been burned to death. Whether this had been caused by the crash or they burned up on reentry into the Earth's atmosphere was never specified. The ship itself was said to have been of a saucer shape and was intact. I don't know it the word intact indicates that the ship itself was in one piece or that not only was it in one piece but it was not burned inside even though the bodies contained within were. There was a large concrete slab at the supposed crash site and a witness stated that was where the army placed some of the heavy equipment. It was stated that they had built it for that purpose. I think that if the story is true, the witnesses may have only seen the exterior of the craft which might have been in one piece but the inside may have been in ruins or burned completely.

Another puzzling fact is that a famous scientist, so famous in fact that he was one of the scientists that worked on the first atomic bomb, John Oppenheimer, purchased a home near the area. Was this because he wanted to be near this hotspot of ufo activity or was it for some other reason either related to ufos or an area that we know nothing about?

Well anyway, this area is becoming so popular that there are now guided tours being conducted that show where the saucer crashed. Watch out Roswell, you have some major competition coming.
