Alien Visit

As a race humans do some very strange things. Just imagine that an alien from outer space decided to come to Earth and observe humans, what would he think of us? I think that at the very least he would think that we are quite strange. Let's try and look through his eyes for the duration of this article and see what he sees.

He goes to a computer store and sees people running over to a counter where aerosol cans are on sale. They are packed three in a package and are selling for only $2.98 instead of the usual $4.99. He picks up a package to see what all the fuss is about and reads the ingredients on the label. The label say "AIR". He wonders if somehow humans run out of air and need to keep cans of it around the house just in case of emergency? He leaves that store wondering why air would be sold in a computer store instead of a drug store and thinks that he doesn't know as much about humans as he thought. The next place he visits is a supermarket. He notices that some shelves are filled with bottles and bottles of water. This on a planet that is composed of 4/5ths water. Could it be that most of the water on the planet is poison to humans? No, this just doesn't make sense. He is going to have to look into this. At the end of the store is the dairy aisle and he sees bottles of milk being kept cold. He can't believe it, but humans are drinking a liquid produced inside an animal, how disgusting, he also notices animal parts for sale at the meat counter. This is just too much for him. He leaves in a hurry before he throws up.

One thing that strikes him as very strange is that every where he goes and for every service he receives, he is required to pay. The planet that he comes from has eliminated this type of barter a long time ago. He decides to take a trip on the New York subway system. He knows that most of the people in New York speak English and can't understand why so many of the announcements are in Spanish. The platform is very crowded because he has chosen to travel at rush hour without realizing it. As the train doors open he is shoved into the car by the swelling throng of people behind him. He is now forced to stand up and has nothing to hold on to. As the train sways back and forth he falls into people several times and they get angry with him. They have reached the next express stop, the doors open and someone gets in with a bicycle. Ouch, the wheel is hurting his leg but he has nowhere to go. He finally gets off wondering how people can ride this thing, not only is it unsanitary with people breathing and coughing in your face, but it is quite uncomfortable and noisy.

It is dark when he departs the train and he seems to be in some sort of deserted factory district. As he walks through this unfamiliar area he hears several foot steps behind him. He turns around to say hello, but before he can get the words out he is attacked. They take his belongings and run. What the muggers didn't know is that he was capable of manufacturing anything he wanted from a device in his shoe. It just so happens that there is a policeman on the next block. The alien runs over to him to complain about the attack. He is told by the policeman, in a rather angry voice, that he shouldn't have been walking through this deserted place at night and he was asking for trouble, he is told to go home. He wonders about this, but can't figure out why he now feels like the guilty party. He leaves totally unsatisfied.

It has been reported to him that the planet is almost entirely linked by something called the Internet. He knows that this is a communications hub and wonders why this hasn't brought the peoples of this planet closer together?

He decides to observe this thing called television. There is a similar device on his planet but it is much more advanced. It shows holographic programs in the center of a room without any screen and looks completely life like. He notices that most of the programming is either light comedy, some sort of sports or violence. Somebody named Ron Popeal gets his attention. The man would be very successful on his planet with all his great inventions, but some of the other advertisements leave him baffled. Why would anyone want to eat something called a hot dog that expands when it is cooked? What is this thing called Smuckers, what is a Smucker anyway? He begins to think that television is a vast wasteland as someone else once thought and puts on the news. That was a big mistake. Now he is subject to reports of carnage on a level that he never knew existed anywhere. Oh he knew humans were violent but didn't realize the level of violence that takes place on a daily basis. He is glued to the screen in horror as photos of victims of explosions, shootings and beatings are flashed across the screen. Enough he shouts and turns off the set.

He decides he has seen enough and goes outside to walk to his ship which is hidden under the ground in Central Park. It is a long walk but he wants to clear his head. As he is walking, he sees someone looking at him strangely. What the .... are you looking at the stranger shouts? He says nothing and keeps walking while the stranger makes a strange gesture to him with his finger. He picks up his pace and while crossing a street he steps in something very unpleasant. He determines that it is some sort of animal excrement. It must be from those beasts that humans seem to keep with them. He was never able to figure out why humans would want to keep lower forms of animals with them and their families.

At the ship he recalls the events of the past day and decides he never wants to come back here. He has noticed that military action is taking place in many countries on this planet and knows that we have a history of war on a grand scale. Oh some of the people were friendly enough, but many others weren't or were down right hostile. No this is a place that he not only wouldn't want to live in but that he wouldn't want to visit again.

As crazy as this sounds, many people have claimed that there were aliens visiting us. If this is true, maybe we have gained a little insight into how they would feel about Earth.
