Should Aliens Come To Earth?

Did you ever wonder what it would be like for an alien coming in contact with earth? What would he, she or it think? Let me preface this with the fact that this would be an intelligent, space faring alien. First of all they might have much more powerful instruments than us for looking at distant planets and stars. We are just beginning to be able to resolve a planet in another solar system into a disc. They might be able to actually see life on a planet from their home world. Let us suppose that the human race progressed without any interruption. If we would have continued to build upon some of the inventions of the Chinese and Greeks we would probably be at least 2000 years ahead of where we are now in technology. If another alien race didn't have this slow period of time and continued to advance, even if they were only as old as we were, they would be at least 2000 years ahead of where we are now. Let's use a race like this as the explorers.

Here we are the alien explorers. We have been told that a very powerful hydrogen telescope has found a planet in the Milkyway galaxy that structures have been observed on. Various vehicles have been seen cruising through the air and satellites have been seen circling that planet. The planet is mostly water, but there are land masses and most of the visible buildings and activity is taking place on the land masses, while hardly any take place on the bigger water masses. Large formations of space junk are circling this planet and we find it quite curious that a civilization this advanced would allow this to happen. After discussing what was found with the best scientific minds we decide that an expedition would be sent to observe this planet and even though it is far more backward than ours, contact might be beneficial to both races, but before this can happen we are going to observe the planet in stealth mode, we don't want the inhabitants to know we are watching them, because we want to see how they act naturally so that we may determine if they are fit to become members of the space faring community.

The expedition is mounted and we are on our way. As we get closer we notice that a few probes have been sent out and we pull one aboard. The probe bears a curious plaque that has an engraved likeness of a species divided into male and female. It also has the location of its world indicated. It seems that these creatures want to be found. This is certainly a good sign. There are other things indicated on the plaque, but for now we put it aside. As we near the edge of their solar system we find ourselves in an area that has many rocky bodies. We cruise through them and now we see planets. The planet we want to observe is visible and is the third planet from the sun. We decide to set up an observation station on one of the moons of the ringed planet and we stop there for a few days while we monitor their crude communications. It has taken us awhile to figure out how they communicate and we realize that it is almost the same way we did, thousands of years ago.

We are able to set up a viewing screen and are getting broadcasts, but they are quite disturbing. They show death and carnage everywhere. Munitions are being used to destroy as many beings as possible in some areas of their world. It would seem that these creatures do not have much respect for life, yet other areas of their planet are much more calm. Some of the creatures have taken to destroying themselves in order to destroy others. This is incomprehensible to us as we have nothing but respect for life of any kind. We stop to talk over what we have seen so far, but none of us can figure out why this is happening. We manage to interpret the language and find out that these actions are called war and it is something that has been happening on this planet for many thousands of years while the weapons of war get more advanced as years go by. As incredible as it sounds to us, the atom has been split so that more lethal weapons could be made, but war is not the only thing going on here.

Millions of beings are starving to death or dying of thirst every year and receiving hardly any help. It seems that the location of where someone lives has a lot to do with how much assistance they receive. The people on what is known as the continent of Africa seem to be in the worst shape and receive the least help. They are not as industrialized as the rest of the planet and because of this receive much less in support. It seems that most of the planet is run by individual governments that run areas known as countries and the richer the country, the better off the inhabitants are. Some of the countries of Africa have almost no government at all. Water is drying up there at an alarming rate and the beings there are fighting to have something to drink and are forced to drink dirty and polluted water to survive.

There is a system in place on the planet where companies are formed and sell products and receive remuneration in return. Each being on the planet needs some form of monetary barter to exist, since everything must be purchased with this currency. Some currencies are worth more than others making the entire system chaotic. It seems that at one time minerals were used for exchange, they were called gold and silver and since they were rare they had a value attached to them. After watching our monitor for a few days we have determined that this system of money for items is not working very well since some of the companies that sell required items have gotten too greedy and are controlling the distribution of some items and making them very expensive.

Some of the areas known as countries are threatening other areas and some of the other areas are putting embargoes into place against those countries, heightening the tension on the planet. There are several countries that have nuclear weapons and the amount of the countries that possess them is growing. We can not figure this out, but it seems that having nuclear weapons is some kind of status symbol for a country and therefore many countries want them and will do anything to get them. These weapons are not all controlled the same and plans on how to build them have been made available to all on a computer network called the internet.

The beings on this planet are highly suspicious of others and there are reports in some of their programing that they have captured alien ships and put the occupants in prison so that they could try and get information out of them. We do not know if this is true, but we are very uneasy hearing this. We see that this race has just begun to get out into space and there is much talk of nuclear weapons being put into orbit and defenses being built onto ships. A picture is beginning to build up in our minds and this is how it looks:

The beings on this planet are very selfish, they do not share resources in order to help each other. They have no problem letting others, who are less fortunate than themselves die. They fight useless wars constantly, killing thousands of people every month. They allow huge companies to take advantage of them and they try and dictate to others how they should behave, while not behaving that way themselves. They have nuclear weapons and the proliferation of these weapons is unstoppable. They are very suspicious of each other and a war could break out at any time. They are heading out into space and need to because they are destroying their own environment. They will weaponize space.

Recommendations:

Turn the expedition around and go home. When we get there, send out a force to destroy this planet.

Conclusion:

Do we really want another race to contact us?
