Beliefs And Disbelievers
(Editorial)

Okay, here is what is going on. There are many scientists that believe the following statements:

1. There are no aliens.
2. If aliens exist than they certainly look completely different form us.
3. Even if aliens exist they couldn't possibly reach earth due to the great distances involved.

Why is it that the possibility of extraterrestrial life is so hard for some to imagine? We are not asking these people to believe that it exists, only that it might exist. There are so many possibilities for life, that absolutely denying that they could ever be except on Earth, is a sign of a classical closed mind. If a scientist starts with the premise that something can not be so, then why even bother to examine it? There can only be one purpose for this, to try and prove that someone else that might believe in the premise is wrong. Things should be examined with an open mind not a closed one. If all scientists would have had a closed mind, we would not have gotten many of the things that we have today. When Marconi was working on the wireless, there were many scientists that said that it couldn't work. Some scientists believed that heavier than air flight could never be accomplished. There have always been scientists and people in the general population that have doubted everything from electricity to space travel.

The group that feels that aliens would have to look completely different from us really baffles me. On one hand they seem to have an open mind, but on the other it couldn't be more closed. I guess that most of us would have to admit that there is a good chance that if aliens exist that many of them would not look exactly like us, but if Drake's law holds true, there are so many planets like earth that some aliens might look exactly like us. Their environment might be exactly like ours. I am sure that the percentage would be low when we think of all the planets that might have life and the chances that they would look like us, but it seems that some would have to exist that might just be so human like, that we would not be able to tell them from us. It just so happens that there are some witnesses that believe that they have seen aliens that they call Nordic. The witnesses, if you believe them, state that these aliens look like tall blond humans and if they are in a crowd, you would not know that they were aliens. Of course there are other people who say they they also witnessed aliens and these aliens were said to look completely different from us. Some have been described as what is known as Greys. Greys are said to be small, thin and have large heads. There is also a description of another group of aliens that look like greys, but are much taller. Reptile type beings are also said to exist.

I can't help but laugh at the statement that aliens could never reach earth because of the great distances involved. There are a couple of things wrong with this statement. First of all, we haven't even explored our entire solar system. For all we know intelligent life capable of space travel might exist in our solar system. It could be in the waters of some moon or under the surface of a planet that we least expect. It might even turn out that it exists on Mars and is hiding from us. Most moons and planets in our solar system are within a distance that light speed would not be needed to reach earth, although it might take a few years to get here. If we look at the other side of the coin, what if a civilization is a few star systems away? Would this stop them from reaching us? Not necessarily. We are finding out now that space can be warped, wormholes might exist and even that travel using black holes might be possible. Sure the distances between stars seems insurmountable, but if you think of it intelligently, it just might not be. It seems to me that any scientist that states that large distances preclude aliens from reaching us, certainly hasn't kept up with current theory in space travel.

Some scientists have made other statements, some of which almost all of us have heard. One famous one is that if there are space traveling aliens, they would be so far above us that it would be like us in relation to ants. I don't know why they assume that this is true. Even if we compare ourselves to our ancestors from hundreds of thousands of years ago, who were probably the Neanderthals, we can't be sure, we would not think of them as being like ants when compared to us. The argument is that if a race was a million years ahead of us, this is what they would think of us. I have no way of knowing if this is true or not, but neither do the people saying this. I can't help but think that they, the aliens, would feel that we are more like they were in their past. It just might be that all cultures go through stages like we are going through until they reach some advanced point in their development where there is no poverty or war. This might just be wishful thinking on my part however. If that is the case, than aliens could actually just about pinpoint where we are in our culture and when the best time to make contact would be. They certainly wouldn't want to pop in during the dark ages and scare the heck out of everyone.

Another thing that I have heard people say, not scientists this time, is that there is some sort of cosmic war going on and that it may be the same war that was talked about by the ancient Indians. I am not talking about American Indians, but Indians from India. There are stories thousands of years old that talk about battles in space, lasers and spaceships. They go on to state that they have been led to believe that aliens are abducting humans to fight their wars and that we are now capable of learning how to operate much, if not all of their technology. How could anyone know this? Some people claim that they were told about this by other aliens during abductions. Supposedly the war is between reptilians and those Nordic type races, which by the way some say were originally from earth themselves. There is a lot being said by scientists and people in general about the possibility of intelligent alien life.

So what are the odds that there are any aliens out there? I guess it depends on who you listen to. There are people around that claim that ruins are visible on the Moon and Mars. Others say that we can not deny that UFOs are plying our skies and exhibiting performance criteria that would be impossible for Earthly craft. We can not deny that UFOs exist, the only question is are any of them from a different planet, or can they all be accounted for by natural phenomena, or by the fact that they might be secret military craft? There is no proof available to us that will prove concretely that UFOs are alien. This does not mean however that this proof does not exit, it only means that we can't get our hands on any of it.
