There are some people that believe that the world was once populated by giants. To support this theory they cite evidence of different things that have been found. One thing is a Sumerian carving that shows a giant figure being approached by what seem to be faithful servants. I have a few problems with this interpretation The first problem that comes to my mind is that maybe the giant figure is really normal size and the people approaching him are small. There has been evidence found of races of people that were very small and existed in our past. The second problem that I have with this, is that maybe the carving was made this way to illustrate the importance of one person over the others and really doesn't represent the size of people at all. Mythology also played a role in making these carvings, so even if they do indicate a giant figure, it could represent what ancient people thought that one of their gods looked like. I have to say that this type of so-called proof doesn't really lead anywhere.

Throughout human history, people have believed in giants. In modern times we scoff at such beliefs. They seem to fall into the category of ufos and bigfoot, in the minds of most people. But as I said this was not always the case. Even the bible tells of giants. Why are there so many references to giants in our history if they didn't exist at one time? Those that do believe that giants existed credit the race of huge humans to different factors. Some claim that large people began to live together and formed tribes and this acted like selective breeding and produced this race of giants. Others believe that they came from the stars and still others believe that they were left over from the time of the dinosaurs, when everything was huge. Painted stones have been found in ancient tombs that depict humans riding dinosaurs. There is no way that these ancient people could have known what a particular dinosaur even looked like. It would have been a lot easier to get up on a peaceful dinosaur if you were a giant. Indeed the depiction seems to indicate that the humans were larger than normal. These stones leave us with a mystery that has yet to be solved.

There are now people that are living in Israel that claim that they have actually seen living giants and they believe that there are giants returning to that country. The giants of Israel that were spoken about in the bible were called the Anakim or Refaim. In 1993 a witness claimed that she saw a ufo, but then it flew away. It came back a few days later and she stated that she saw giant beings walking near her property in Israel. When the claim was examined, a pure form of silicon was found exactly where she stated that the craft had been. The next thing to happen was that crop circles began to form all around the area. Are there a race of giant aliens walking around on earth? Later that year another witness in Israel claims to have been visited by giants. A woman went outside her home and was startled to see a giant being looking at her pickup truck. She claimed that when she tried to talk to it, it told her to go away and went on to say that it could crush her like an ant if it wanted to. When this incident was investigated, a circle was found burned into the grass where the woman had indicated that she had seen a ufo.

As with all human endeavors, hoaxes have destroyed much of the credibility of those who claim to have found giant human bones. Just within the past year or so, a photo was circulated on the Internet that showed archaeologists standing next to a giant human skeleton in the sands of Saudi Arabia. Many had suspected that this was a hoax and they turned out to be correct. It is an unfortunate fact of life that as technology advances, so does the ability to create hoaxes that seem to be genuine. Right now most of these hoaxes can be detected by experts, but the time is coming when they just might become undetectable. One of the mysterious things about giants is that their existence spread to almost every country of the ancient world, including the Americas. In 1856 laborers were plowing a field and unearthed a human skeleton in West Virginia. It was said that the skeleton was 10 foot 9 inches tall. What made this slightly different from the normal human skeleton, besides it's size, was the fact that the skull contained a double row of teeth. The skeleton was said to have been surrounded by stone axes, carved shells and there were blocks in the grave that contained symbols. This ties in with the fact that a couple of archaeologists have found stone axes that are too large and heavy for the average person to use. One of them was even dated as being over 30,000,000 years old. The problem is that when an archaeologist finds something that he deems doesn't make sense, he will usually not tell anyone for fear of ruining his reputation, so all these odd finds become a dirty little secret.

Human skeletons were found in Nevada in a cave known as Lovelock Cave. The cave is located about 70 miles from Reno, Nevada. What made the find so strange is the fact that the smallest skeleton was about 6 foot 5 inches tall and the largest was about 8 feet. The Paiute Indians of the region had legends of a race of giants that had lived there and the bones seemed to bear this out. The Humboldt Museum in Winnemucca, Nevada has one of the skulls from this find and it is about a foot high. A farmer was digging a pit in Louisiana, near the town of Waterproof, in 1931. As he was digging he began to see bones and they looked human and huge. There was a human skeleton buried there and it was 9 feet 11 inches tall. Another giant skeleton was discovered in Madison Parish in 1933. This held the bones of a person that was 10 feet 2 inches tall. Toledo, Ohio was the site of a mass grave of at least 20 people. Each skeleton was seated and faced east. They were at least twice as large as normal people. In the tomb were bowls that had hieroglyphic figures on them. A grave with giant bones was discovered in the U.S. in 1879. The skeleton was 9 feet 8 inches tall.

What is going on here? Why aren't we hearing more about these giants? Well the ridicule factor plays a large part in that. If you doubt me, try talking about these giants to your friends and family. I would bet you that you will get at least several snickers and a few patronizing remarks. It is very hard to discuss this subject under those circumstances. Scientists keep moving back the date that humans first appeared on earth. This means that at any given time, they are probably wrong in their estimates. Could it be that humans were around with the dinosaurs? There are a few indicators that seem to bear this out, but the scientific community doesn't accept them. Will we find that humans were here several hundred million years ago and were much larger, as was every other animal? Is this so far fetched? I don't think so, do you?
