One thing that you don't seem to hear much about, is the strange holes that are found all over the world. Sometimes these are caused by nature, but other times they are clearly man made. They appear in fields, cities and even in the middle of the woods. A hole can even open up on a mountain or glacier. Sometimes construction is the cause of these things being discovered. You never know what might be uncovered when you are building something. A good example of this was found in a field, near a highway in Russia. The highway connects the two cities of Krasnoyarsk and Abakan. The strange thing here is that when the holes appeared, they really were not just ordinary holes at all. About ten holes appeared as the earth around them began to sink. As the holes were examined it was found that they were not holes, they were entrances to cave line areas and there were tunnels that connected all of them. No one knows where the tunnels came from. Scientists in Russia have examined the tunnels and caves, but they have not reached any conclusion yet. Could these structures be man made? Maybe. Some think that they might have been created by earthquakes that hit the area a few years ago and others think that there is some kind of undiscovered animal in the area that digs into the ground. What ever caused these things, it seems to be quite a coincidence that they are all connected. The question remains, are there more of them around and do any of them lead to anywhere of significance? Maybe there are underground structures somewhere in that area?

Strange holes are not only found on land. Last year a very strange thing was found in a lake in Latvia. You have to realize that the lake was looked at in the middle of winter and the temperatures were sub-zero. A hole was seen in the ice on the lake and was observed for several days and yet it never froze over. What could cause such a strange phenomena? People of the area were convinced that the cause was something extraterrestrial. Some thought that possibly a meteorite had smashed into the ice and contained some element that prevented the hole from freezing over. Sometimes there is a warmer spring under a lake and this water breaks through the ice cover, but this was not the case here, because this causes thinner ice around the hole, but that didn't happen. A little while later the same type of hole appeared in a pond in Maryland. This was not the first time these holes have been sighted. It was not even the first time they were sighted in the US. A very large hole appeared in a lake in Minnesota. This hole was 2,100 feet in diameter and defied explanation. I think we have all heard how cold it gets in Minnesota in the winter, it is almost inconceivable that something like this could form there. When the ice was examined in these cases, it was noted that it was just as thick at the edge of the holes as it was at the rest of the lakes and ponds, which really baffled scientists.

Black Mesa is an area in Arizona. The area is the home to Navajos and Hopi tribes. It is a a beautiful place by all accounts. Up to about six years ago everything was completely normal in the area. People went about their everyday lives and not much changed from day to day. That was before the holes started to appear. Why holes would appear in an area that was never known for anything like this, is just a mystery. One 78 year old woman stated that she had spent her entire life in this area and had never seen anything like this before. A large hole was discovered near a man's mother's home, so the man decided to explore the area and went out as far as about 30 miles in several directions. To his surprise he found hundreds of these holes. Why was it that no one had ever noticed them before? The answer is that they were probably newly formed. There are more than deep holes in the area however. Gashes have been found that are at least 30 feet deep and it is the opinion of some in the area that something is happening to the earth there and that these gashes are really cracks in the earth's crust. There are fault lines in this area and this could be an indication of some seismic activity getting ready to happen. Let's hope not. Along with the appearance of the holes, areas that had water are drying up. Is there some connection between the two?

Strange holes have been found in a Russian forest. You would think that a hole would look something like a deep foxhole, but not these holes. What is strange about the Russian forest. holes is that they look like they were bored into the earth by machinery. They are about 6 to 8 feet in diameter and seem to go down about 100 feet, it is hard to tell since I am looking at photos of them. They look like they lead to a larger hole and end, but I really can't tell. Perhaps the former government, the Soviets, had started some secret project and stopped when the economy collapsed. Maybe these holes were to be cemented and missiles put in them since they look like the holes in the ground that you see photos of Minuteman missiles coming out of, only those holes are finished. Taking this theory a step further, maybe these holes relate back to earlier times and it was decided to go with mobile missiles, as they did, and the holes were never finished.

It looks like some ancient people in Peru had worked very hard. There is a band composed of about 10 holes wide and stretching for over a mile. The holes are carved into solid rock. No one knows who made these holes, or for that matter why they even bothered. The holes are located in the Pisco Valley. Some archeologists theorize that the holes were made to store grain. Others say why would they go to these lengths when there were so many other easier ways to do the same thing? It must have taken many years to dig these holes out of solid rock using the primitive tools that were available. Some thought that they were vertical tombs, but no bones were ever sound in any of them. None of them seem to have ever had a cover or seal of any type. The holes are not exactly uniform. Some are from 6 to 7 feet deep, while others are very shallow. Perhaps those shallow hole were not finished? The holes are about one meter wide, that is about 39.5 inches. One of the things that puzzle scientists is the fact that the long ribbon of holes ends in a blackened area. It makes me wonder if these ancient people heated the rock with fire then poured water on it to get it to crack, so that digging the holes would be easier. Oh well, I am not a scientist, so I guess they know better.

There are holes all around us. I think that we all know that there is a giant hole in the Ozone layer over Antarctica. The hole seems to form in the Winter and is said to be caused by temperature drops. Thin clouds form of ice, nitric acid and sulphuric acid. Chemical processes interact with the ice crystals and form CFCs. This causes ozone depletion and the hole appears. This hole was discovered in 1985 by British scientists. Even the universe itself is said to be full of holes. There are two types that come to mind immediately. One is an extremely large void where no stars have been seen. There are a few of these through the known universe. The other type of holes that are said to exist are the infamous black holes. These may not really be holes, but may be more like tunnels that have a very powerful object at the end that has so strong a gravitational force, that it sucks everything down the tunnel, including light. There are holes in Saturn's rings, craters on most of the moons that we have observed and even holes under our oceans.

I guess the holes that I find most interesting are the ones that turn up, that seem to have been created by intelligent beings. Ancient man is said to have lived in caves and indeed, much evidence has been found to support this. It makes you wonder if he ever dug out chambers or holes for any reason? Lastly, there are sink holes, those holes where the earth seems to collapse. They can ruin roads and put homes in danger. Some areas are known for their sink holes and really should be avoided, as far as building structures in them.
