Strange But True

Strange things are always taking place on this planet of ours. I am not talking about so called magic, just very unusual things. They seem to happen to some of us a lot more than others. These events can even take place and effect the simplest of things. I'll give you an example of a very simple thing that happened to me, yet it was very annoying. I was repairing a computer of mine and had to take a part out of a plastic bag. Simple enough proposition, isn't it? This damn bag must have been make from some sort of plastic steel. I tried to rip it open, but would have had just as much success trying to forcibly open the vault at Fort Knox. I was a little agitated before I started, because I was short of time and wanted to finish the job. I tried to rip open the bag from every side with no luck. Next I decided to use my teeth, this was not a good idea. The bag resisted every attempt to rip it and my mouth was getting sore. Finally I did what I should have done from the start, I went and looked for scissors. I found a pair and cut the bag open and took out the part. But the battle of the bag wasn't over! The bag was now sticking to my right hand, the amount of static electricity on the bag was incredible. I pulled it off with my left hand and it stuck to that hand. I was ready to go nuts at this point, but instead rubbed the bag against my leg. It came off my hand and stuck there. At this point I asked my wife to come it and pull the bag off. Remarkably, she had no trouble and threw the bag away.

Some people have found that being bald is even a worse curse than they thought. An ancient Greek actor, who had a bald head, had the misfortune of being out in the open. A vulture saw the bald dome and thought it was a rock. The vulture was carrying a tortoise and decided that dropping it on a rock would be a good way to open the shell. The tortoise was dropped and hit Aeschuylus on the head and killed him instantly. This was a lot worse for him than fighting with a plastic bag. Another unlucky lad was David Douglas the Scottish botanist. He fell into a pit trap. Standing up and being unhurt, he must have thought how lucky he was to escape uninjured, but just then a bull fell into the trap and crushed him to death. Someone dying is never funny but one can't help but chuckle at these turn of events. A very strange event and death occurred in 1923. A jockey named Frank Hayes had a heart attack and died while in the middle of a race. He remained on the horse and the horse won the race. Hayes was the only jockey in history to have won a race when he was deceased.

Some people who have examined the Mona Lisa and the self portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci have determined that the Mona Lisa is really Leonardo. Could this be the reason for her strange smile, is she laughing at the joke that is being played on us?

According to many reports, a very strange thing happed to Phobos and Deimos, the two small moons of Mars a few years ago, they disappeared! They certainly are there now, where did they go and how did they disappear?

In 2002, two scientists say that an exotic form of matter called Quark matter may have struck the Earth and passed through it. They state that they have evidence that this Quark matter passed through the Earth undetected. Quark matter is heavy, VERY, VERY, HEAVY. If you had a piece the size of a human hair it would weigh about a ton. The event is said to have taken place in 1993. There were strange seismic disturbances recorded that year, and they recorded the event, suggest the two scientists. While other scientists are yet to completely agree with this assumption, they can not explain what caused the seismic disturbances.

What is the Coral Castle and how was it built? A castle exists in Florida that was built from huge blocks of coral, some of which weighed many tons. Some blocks were so heavy that today's equipment could hardly have lifted them, yet a mere 100 pound man, Ed Leedskalnin, built it without any machinery or help. No one knows how this was possible. An even more fantastic event occurred when he had to move the whole castle ten miles to a new location and did it in three years by himself. No one ever reported seeing him do this and he claimed he just used a truck with a block and tackle. That would have been impossible since some of the blocks weighed up to 11 tons.

Have you seen those parking tickets you get from the machine at the airports when you park your car? They have a magnetic strip along the back and the time you parked the car is stamped on the front. When you leave the lot, you put the ticket into a machine by the toll booth, in the direction of the arrows on the ticket and the price for parking comes up on a screen in front of you. I have a friend who seems to be really jinxed. I have been with him seven times in a row picking up people and bringing people to the airport and his ticket never worked correctly. He would take the ticket and put it into his shirt pocket and carry it there until it is time to put it into the machine. On several occasions the man, or woman, in the booth has put his ticket into the machine for him but to no avail. About four times the ticket was mangled and jammed up the machine and the other three times the machine just couldn't read it. He is an ordinary guy and the ticket was not folded in any way or altered. It was not demagnetized, just kept flat in his pocket. Today we went to the airport and I cringed as he took the ticket, after parking, and put it into his shirt pocket. This ticket business always delayed us an extra fifteen minutes or so from getting out of the lot. We did what we had to do and when it was time to leave, he put his ticket into the slot in the machine. We held our breath, and guess what? For the first time, a price came up on the screen. Let's hope the spell was broken.

I liked the bit about strange deaths, not the deaths but the strange stories. Temptation has got me to list a couple of more strange deaths. I think everyone has heard of Sir Francis Bacon the famous English scientist and philosopher. He was sort of like the Ben Franklin of his country. He was very interested in preserving food and decided that maybe he could freeze a chicken. He went out into the bitter cold and conducted his experiment. The problem was that he got so cold that he died. One of the most famous detectives in the old west was Allan Pinkerton. One day when he was walking along he tripped and his teeth went into his tongue. My goodness we have all bitten ourselves, but Mr. Pinkerton gave himself gangrene and died from the bite.
