Cloning
Clones Several years ago a group of scientists, located in the Philippine Islands, expressed a desire to clone Jesus using a cell from one of the many relics that exist. Their stated purpose was to bring about the second coming as predicted in the bible, using techniques that the Roslin Institute in Scotland had discovered. But people now say that this was just a hoax. It may or may not have been a hoax but it most certainly would be almost impossible to find Jesus's DNA. Even if one could convince the church to let them try and get DNA from a relic (that in itself is almost impossible), the DNA would be so old, as to be most likely worthless. When DNA evidence is being searched for, only a marker is needed which is much easier to find. The method used by the Roslin Institute was taking a cell from a living animal which is far different than using a 2,000 year old cell. Lastly how would one tell the DNA of Jesus from any other DNA that might be on a relic, from someone else who handled it? But what about the more recently deceased, could they be cloned? Before I begin to answer this question I have to state that there are all sorts of ethical and religious questions involving cloning. One religious question is whether the clone would have a soul and if not, or would he be a creature of the devil? But I am not going to go into any of that here. First of all, I am not qualified to answer such questions and second of all, who would really be? One thing I know is that doubles of leaders of government are in high demand. Look at Sadam, he had at least three doubles, Hitler had several and I heard that some of the leaders of the British Government had doubles during the Second World War. Imagine if you offered clones that could stand in for them, I imagine that would be worth quite a few dollars to a Sadam, Hitler or Stalin. Knowing this, how do we know that this cloning isn't going on right now? As a matter of fact, how do we know that there isn't a clone of George Bush that is used for dangerous trips or one of Rumsfield? This could explain those trips to Iraq. Here is a great unconfirmed rumor that is on the internet. It concerns the Pentagon. Supposedly the Pentagon's Chief Medical Officer admitted to someone that the U.S. Army has been conducting clone research since the 1980s at Ft. Detrick. This is also where there is supposed to be a secret bio warfare lab. It is said that the army has used one single sex cell to clone over 150,000 soldiers. Wow this sounds like something from a SciFi movie. Sort of like the movie Universal Soldier but they were dead and resurrected. Can you imagine if this is true. The implications are mind blowing. The report goes on further to state that all the soldiers are exactly the same size so they will wear the same size clothes including shoes and gloves when necessary. It also goes on to state that these soldiers are now old enough to enter the army and will do so this year. Another advantage that was cited was the fact that blood and organs are interchangeable among these men. There is also another report that a secret lab in the midwest is trying to clone a human. It is said that this human died and left a fund of $500,000 for the project. Here is the weird part of the story, over 50 women came forward to volunteer to bear the clone and one of the women was the daughter of the deceased donor. Cloning is not something that is accepted by everyone, especially the thought of cloning people. As I mentioned before there are ethical and religious objections to human cloning and many people are against it. But cloning is just like anything else. Those that are rich and powerful, may be secretly cloning themselves or arranging for their cloning upon their deaths in some insane effort to insure their immortality. But are clones really the same person as the cell donor? Science is hard pressed to answer this question but most scientists believe that environment plays such an important part in our upbringing that the clone of a person would have a completely different personality. Cloning is advancing every day. As a matter of fact the Koreans announced a year ago that they had produced a human embryo. There are other problems with cloning that never seem to be discussed. One of them is the fact that a cell could be taken from anyone without their knowledge and that person could be cloned. Can you imagine cloning a famous person then trying to replace them with the clone. This suggests all sorts of intrigue. Another possibility is of couples that can't have children, for whatever reason, cloning themselves. The prospect of a person raising a child that is their clone seems upsetting to me, but I am not sure how most others would feel about it? Another use of cloning might be for parts. Can you imagine a human being kept around for parts for some of the rich and powerful. This would rate right up their with some of the most horrific medical experiments of World War II where the subjects were treated with utter disregard. Is there any instance where human cloning would benefit mankind? Quite frankly I can't think of any. Oh there will be those that might say we should clone some genius so that we may continue to make use of his intellect but where would you draw the line. The next thing would be cloning CEOs and senators. About the only thing I can think of that might be useful is if we could prefect cloning to only develop organs for transplants. I am NOT talking about cloning humans for parts which I abhor. The problem we face is that somewhere, sometime, cloning of humans WILL take place, and there is nothing we can do about it. |
