It has turned out that Scotland was the site of an ancient meteorite strike that was considered catastrophic. In the days when this happened, the hills of Scotland were more like Death Valley in the U.S. The strike is estimated to have happened about 1.2 billion years ago when a huge object fell from the sky near the village of Stoer. Today it would have blown away all the trees in Aberdeen and the trees in Inverness would have ignited. Any man made structures would have been destroyed. Glasgow would have been a death zone.

The sun has been very quite for the last two years or so. There have been very few sun spots or solar flares, but all that is changing. David Hathaway of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center stated, "I think solar minimum is behind us," The activity and inactivity of the sun is still not completely understood. Scientists are saying that the sun will still go through times of inactivity before it reaches maximum activity some years in the future.

It looks like Erich von Daniken is still going strong. I am sure you know him, he wrote, Chariots of the Gods. As a matter of fact he is still giving lectures. You will see him on the History Channel before this article is published. I have also given him an invitation to be interviewed for About Facts Net, we will have to see what happens with that, he does seem to be very busy and this site is certainly not one of the big boys, but you never know. As I said in the past, I was called by one of the producers of a History Channel show so stranger things have happened.

Did you ever wonder why there are ripples in the sands on Mars, many scientists have? The fields of rippled sand are far greater than those on Earth and this has posed a problem for the scientific community. They are called Transverse Aeolian Ridges (TARs). They are formed by wind driven particles by a process known as Aeolian processes. Why are scientists so interested in such a mundane thing? They state that their interest comes from the fact that this is a clue to past and present climates on the Red Planet and because they can foul the rovers that are currently rolling around on Mars.

Walking around on the Moon and some planets is not the safest place to be. These places are bombarded with super fast charged particles that stream away from the Sun and are a danger to a long duration mission. Is there an answer to this problem that can be used right now? Yes and that is using a magnetic field generator. The journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion reports this generator would mimic the field that protects the Earth, which is known as the magnetosphere. Cosmic Rays are another problem and these can also be blocked using the same generator. Scientists are also considering protecting spacecraft using a magnetic field generator and putting a field around the ship. This would be quite a breakthrough and eliminate heavy lead shielding that would be needed on long missions.

Even NASA with all their technology was not able to keep track of one spider. They had sent a couple of spiders into space. One was a male and one a female. Each was in their own tank. When one of the astronauts checked the male's tank he was missing. The female was so disturbed by lack of gravity that she had filled her tank with a profuse amount of webbing so she could hold on. There was so much webbing in her tank that it became impossible to see if the male had sneaked into her tank. It seemed that one of God's smallest creatures had outwitted NASA.

I can't tell you how Mars originally lost all of its atmosphere, but I can tell you how it is losing the little bit of atmosphere that it has left. Scientists announced that they have found out that the solar wind is ripping it away. The solar wind is actually ripping chunks of atmosphere away and they are sent tumbling into space. This is very strange indeed. It helps explain why Mars has so little air," says David Brain of UC Berkeley. Martian air is made primarily of carbon dioxide and is not the same as the nitrogen oxygen mix we breathe on Earth. There are some scientists that believe that Mars had an atmosphere that was as thick as Earth's is today.

Mars Phoenix Lander Sailing Over What Some Alleged To Be A Forest

Another Person is alleging that the reason the famous “piece of wood” photo on Mars is genuine is that there are vast forests on Mars that are being kept secret from us. Normally I wouldn't bother mentioning one opinion like this, but this has been alleged for years. If you Google Mar's Forests, when in picture mode, you will get tons of photos that look like forests and yet this has always been denied and we have been given alternate explanations for what we are seeing. Try it.

Where will the next NASA space mission go? Right now NASA is deciding if the next mission should be to one of Jupiter's moons. Under consideration is a landing on Europa. I personally think that this is the place to go. Supposedly there are large oceans on this body, directly below the ice. It would be very interesting to see what is in them. Are they just empty bodies of water, or could they be home to all sorts of strange, or even familiar creatures? Perhaps they are teeming with cod? Wouldn't that be something, finding out that fish are fish, no matter where they develop?

Brightest Star In Galaxy?

The Hubble telescope has taken a photo of two of the very biggest stars in our galaxy, they have never been seen before. They are about 7500 light years from us and are located in the Carina Nebula. They are very rare and are ultra-hot, super-bright and they emit primarily ultraviolet radiation, this makes them look blue. WR25 is the large star in the center of the photo and is about 50 times the size of our sun. It has another star orbiting it that is about 25 times the size of our sun. The second brightest star in the photo is not such a massive star, but is much closer to the Earth making it appear brighter than it actually is.
