Photo Source: Stock.xching The earth is full of strange mysteries and many of us have encountered mysteries of our own that we can not explain. Sometimes mysterious events will happen to us personally and yet most of us never realize that they are happening to many other people also. This is because most people never talk about the strange experiences that they have, because they don't want to be labeled a kook. I can readily understand this, but maybe we as humans are too preoccupied with not being made fun of? I often wonder what it would be like if everyone who had strange experiences of any kind were to talk about them? I am almost willing to bet that this would make us realize that just about everyone has had a strange experience at least once in their life. I was talking with one person about strange experiences and he confessed that he had a strange experience when he was young that he never forgot. He was about 12 years old and had gotten into a fight with another kid and at that point a strange feeling came over him. He felt that time had slowed down for him and he was able to do things that the other kid just couldn't respond to. This in itself was only one experience of this type and yet when I have talked to others about this, a few of them also confessed that they had experienced a similar event. As I started checking around I was surprised to find that a lot more people had experienced this slowing of time than I ever had expected. What was the cause of this I wondered? Had time actually slowed down for one person and yet continued at the normal speed for those around them? Photo Source: Stock.xching Since we are speaking about time I have to tell you about a radical new theory that concerns time and the universe. Most scientists believe that the universe is expanding at an increasing rate of speed and that our old friends dark matter and dark energy are responsible, but not all. A new theory has been put forward that states that we only think that the universe is expanding at ever increasing speed, but what is really happening is that time is slowing down. The theory goes on to state that time will slow down so much at one point that it will disappear and there will be no more time in our universe. Trying to imagine this is like trying to imagine what other dimensions look like. We just can not wrap our brains around this concept. One scientist stated, “We do not say that the expansion of the universe itself is an illusion, What we say it may be an illusion is the acceleration of this expansion, that is the possibility that the expansion is, and has been, increasing its rate." In other words the expansion of the universe is real but the acceleration is really time just slowing down and to us looks like acceleration. So what will it be like when time finally stops? According to scientists everything will be frozen, as in a snapshot and will stay that way forever. Scientists say that if time started from the big bang, then it can disappear. There are those that believe that under certain circumstances you mind can slow down time. Some believe that your spirit is actually taking over your mind for an instant, while others believe that the brain has untapped power and sometimes we subconsciously tap into it. That power is said to allow us to operate outside of time for an instant, but wait a second, there is another theory that states that somehow our minds are able to tap into points on the earth that allow us to manipulate time. It has long been said that certain point such as ley lines contain power. While this would hardly account for people that seemed to have slowed down time, because the lines are few and far in between, there is also said to be vortexes that exist and these are supposedly more frequent and invisible. Some say that when a human slows down time. he or she is really tapping in the energy from a vortex to do so. This assumes that we believe that time has been slowed down, but others say that we have really sped up our reaction times, making it seem to us that others are moving much slower. Photo Source: Stock.xching All of this makes one wonder. Could there have been a period when time moved much quicker? Also could something have effected time that caused it to change speed? Again this seems impossible on the face of it, but it really isn't. If time were sped up for our ancestors, they wouldn't have even noticed. We have no way of knowing either. Some might say that skeletons would show the age of a person when they died and they seem to indicate that thousands of years ago the average life span was about 35 years of age. While that is true, that 35 years might have been lived out in a year, ten years, or twenty years of our time, or conversely hundreds of years of our time. If time is flexible there could even be other extraterrestrial races that measure time different than us. Maybe time moves faster for some and slower for others? Wouldn't that be unusual? In 2007 a report came out that stated that when people feel that time has slowed down, it is an illusion. Apparently most of them have never been involved with that feeling first hand. How did researchers conduct these tests? It was felt that fear made people feel that time had slowed down, so they took a group of people and dropped people from great heights backwards, without ropes attached, into large nets. The drop was 150 feet. The researchers came to the conclusion that time didn't slow down for the subjects. The scientists stated that what was happening was that older memories of the event came into play and the mind reviewed them all and that this made the event seem longer. This didn't seem to satisfy the fact that many people who feel time slowing down are able to accomplish more than others they are with in the same time periods, also maybe fear is not the motivator for slowing time. Time is defined many different ways, but in the way I have discussed it here, I think that the best definition is, “the continuum of experience in which events pass from the future through the present to the past”. It is hard to imagine that something that seems so intangible is capable of being altered and yet we are finding out, slowly but surely, that many things that we believed as true facts are wrong. Science is riddled with information that has been proven wrong, but was believed for hundreds and even thousands of years. Perhaps we will have to change the way we think about the concept of time? |
