Time Travel Revisited
Time Let me tell you about my favorite Internet character, he called himself John Titor. I say called himself, because he no longer posts. Let's see if you can guess the reason why he no longer posts? I don't think you can do it, unless you have heard of this person before. He is a time traveler of course and went back to his own time, as all good time travelers must. He was very active on bulletin boards during the years 2000 and 2001 and was more than glad to describe events that would take place in the near future, starting with the year 2004. He had become so famous that both a book and play have been written about him. He gave the people an apocalyptic view of the future, in which the United States had been devastated by nuclear attack along with the rest of the world powers. Since everybody back then thought that we were headed for nuclear war, as many still do today, they readily accepted his explanation about how the future would look. He went on to state further that the United States would no longer exists as it is today, it would be composed of five smaller countries. What I liked about his posts was the fact that he completely ignored the repercussions that would be caused by a time traveler hanging around in the past for such a long period of time and causing all sorts of changes to the time-line, therefore destroying his own present. Strange Electrical Storm Have there ever been any instances that could indicate to us that time travel might be possible? Off the top of my head and without doing any more research I can remember an instance where a pilot in a small plane was flying over the Bermuda triangle. As his plane was flying back to Florida, a storm that was shaped like a horizontal funnel caught up to his plane. I remember him stating in an interview how scared he was at the time. It was almost like he was inside of a spinning barrel. He said that he struggled to speed up the plane so that it would come out of the front of the storm. He was able to succeed in this endeavor and as he came out of the storm he was almost directly over the airport in Florida that he was traveling to. So far this account of what happened doesn't seem very unusual, but it was believe me. The thing that made it so strange was the fact that he arrived at his destination almost one hour ahead of time and hadn't used anywhere enough fuel to travel more than half the distance. He had described the storm as being very strange and very electrical in nature. The plane was not pushed by incredible tail winds that would have had to have been able to make the plane travel twice as fast. The pilot believed he was caught in a time loop of some kind and that he had become a time traveler. Whether this is true or not we will never know, but we do know that something very strange happened to this person. Time Travel Time travel has been the dream of many a person over the centuries, but it is beginning to look like a faint possibility. Scientists all over the world are working on the problem and most of them feel that going into the future will be a lot easier than trying to go into the past. One scientist who I interviewed a while back, is working on a very primitive time machine, which if successful will be able to transport one atom. If he succeeds, even on this primitive level, it will give us hope that someday, humans may be able to travel back and forth in time. If we find out that this is true, then we will have to believe that there could be time travelers among us. Some may say that this is ridiculous, but if you think of the long future that the human race could have, why couldn't a time machine be invented, even in the distant future? Inventing a time machine even in the future is probably the only invention that could affect the entire past. How do we even know that the time-line we are living wasn't already altered by time travelers? If time travel existed today, don't you think that the military might use it as a weapon? Wouldn't it be far easier for them to go into the past and make sure that some of these leaders of terrorist groups never were born? The funny thing is that Einstein proved that in a way, we are all time travelers and don't even realize it. He proved that the faster you go the slower time travels. We don't notice it because we can't really go fast enough for it to be a factor, and yet every time we get into our car and drive, we are causing time to slow down ever so slightly. That is one of the reasons that a mechanical clock in a car will always slow down, or any clock not tied into an outside signal. If you could get into your car and drive almost at the speed of light, for a year or so, when you got out of the car all your friends and family would be way older then you, even if they were the same age when you started your trip. Why heck, they might all be dead from old age, even though you felt that your were only driving for a year. As you can see, going into the future may not be such a big deal, it is getting back to the point in time at which you left, or earlier, that would be the problem. There are quite a few people who are interested in UFOs that believe that sightings that were recorded on ancient stones and such, were made by some of the same craft that are reported in the sky today. They believe that at least some UFOs can travel back and forth in time as easily as they can navigate in our atmosphere. There really is no way to prove if this is correct or not, except by capturing a UFO and being able to figure out how it operates. If there are UFOs that are from other planets and they have traveled many light years to reach us, maybe it would be possible for them to also travel in time. One just cannot eliminate this possibility. Some scientists believe that if we are able to travel into our past, it will not really be our past at all, but some sort of alternate universe. They claim that things like paradoxes will not exist. What I am talking about is that old paradox that states that if you go into the past and kill your grandfather, you will never be born. If the theory of alternate universes or dimensions is correct, you can kill your grandfather and still be born because it will not really be your grandfather, you may have killed your other self in that dimension, not in your own. In other words you would have never been born in the dimension you went to. I used to hope that time travel would be developed, but now I look upon it the way I look upon nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons were the worst thing that has ever been invented and the only thing that might be worse would be time travel. Just think of it, an advanced country sending soldiers back in time to a country that would be helpless and annihilating everybody in it. No thank you. |
