Natural Radiation

One fact that I never considered before, was the different levels of radiation all over the earth. Much of it is natural radiation. What brought this to my attention was a recent news article that was mentioning the fact that there are a few isolated places in the world where the populations are living a lot longer than the rest of us and it seems that at least some of these places have more background radiation than we do. We generally think of radiation as harmful, but could it be that if one is born into a slightly elevated level of radiation, that their genes would adjust to this fact and the radiation might kill some of the organisms that the rest of us fall prey to? It is an intriguing thought and if it turns out to be true, it would be a great surprise to the scientific world.

We know that radiation is responsible for doing some terrible things to people, plants and animals. A UFO Hunter's episode that was on a few weeks ago, alluded to the Star Child Skull. This skull looked very different from our skulls. It is sort of shaped like a basketball and has no nasal passages. The people on the show were using it as evidence that aliens from other planets visited earth. I don't know how many out there are familiar with some of the deformities that were caused by the Chernobyl nuclear accident? At least one baby was born with a head that resembled the Star Child Skull and I sent a photo of the baby to the publisher of UFO magazine, who by the way is on the show. I stated that maybe there is another alternative to that skull being from an alien and that it could be deformed from radiation from an unknown source.

The Star Child Skull is said to have been dated back about 800 years, but that test could be invalid if it measures radioactivity and uses it as a yardstick, if the skull was from an irradiated person or the off spring of one. This presents another mystery however, what could have caused the radiation to deform a skull, before nuclear fission was discovered? I am assuming that the skull is at least a couple of hundred years old, but it could be a lot older than the 800 year estimate. Could natural radiation be so dangerous in a part of the earth that it could cause deformities of such a gross nature? I decided to run a check and see if natural radiation was indeed dangerous.

As unbelievable as it sounds, natural radiation is said to be responsible for about 3 percent of all genetic defects. I for one never would have believed that. I would have to think that we are adding to this radiation with all the nuclear testing that we have done, all the leaks from nuclear plants and such. This would have to increase the background radiation. Radiation is composed of particles that plunge into our cells causing all sorts of damage, or at least this is what we believe now and it might not apply to those that might have extreme longevity because of it. On the other hand it may still damage them, but while so doing, damage and kill other organisms that would cause an earlier death. It might be a sort of trade off. Then there are other factors that have not been considered. It just might turn out that people on some tiny island live longer because of the things that they eat, drink and the lack of contact with the rest of the world. Maybe if it wasn't for the radiation they might live even longer?

It is estimated that every second that goes by sees everyone on this planet of ours struck with at least 15,000 radioactive particles Could it be that if we were separated from all this radiation, that we would live a lot longer, or would we live shorter lives? That would make a very interesting experiment wouldn't it? If the scientists could raise mice in an area that was completely shielded from radiation, would their life expectancy be longer or shorter? Maybe this was done already and I am not aware of it, after all there are so many experiments going on at any given time? One problem is that radiation comes from so many different sources. Even light is radiation, it is what is known as electromagnetic radiation, as are radio waves and many other wave types. As you can see this would make it extremely hard to raise anything in a completely free of radiation environment.

One area that was found to have extremely high natural radiation is in Afra hot springs, Jordan. The radiation was so high that the area was marked as a high radiation zone. It is being said that workers in the area should be monitored for radiation. Ramsar, Iran is another high radiation area and is inhabited, unlike Afra. It is said that people there have been living with high natural radiation since the beginning of time. Not only that, but it is now being said that radiation was much more intense when life developed. The site in Iran has the highest levels of natural radiation in the world. The next 3 highest natural radiation areas in the world are:
1, Guarapari, Brazil
2. Kerala, India
3. Yangjiang, China

It is interesting to note that none of these areas are located on little islands as I first talked about, but are in countries with very large populations. It may turn out that there is some sort of balance between the amount of excess radiation that one receives and longevity. Get too much and the life expectancy goes down and don't get enough and it also goes down. Are some of the archaeological finding of skeletons affected by natural radiation? Could it be that what some scientists interpret as being missing links and such are nothing more that bones that have been changed by radioactive doses to them or their ancestors? As I said, could the Star Child Skull have been formed by gene damage to some poor creature?
