The Possibility Of Other Dimensions

In the last few years there has been a lot of talk about other dimensions among scientists. String theory is one of the newest inventions in physics and it states that there are all sorts of other dimensions out there. The idea of other dimensions has gone from science fiction to being proposed as science fact. It certainly makes one wonder what a different dimension would look like doesn't it? We don't even know, at this point, if our puny human brains would be able to recognize a different dimension if we saw one. Let's think about this problem for a minute. The first thing that we have to do is accept the fact that other dimensions may exist before we can go any further with this, so for the sake of argument let's say that they do.

When I interviewed the famous Canadian inventor John Hutchison, he stated that there was another dimension out there that was composed of energy and that was where he got the power from in some of his experiments. He said that it was coming directly from this dimension. By the way this has become known as the Hutchison Effect. To demonstrate this fact he ran experiments that used this power to do different things, like lift bowling balls and tools and make a model of a saucer fly. Let's now assume that he is right, why would there be a dimension composed of all energy? He stated that all energy that is released goes there to this energy place and that he can tap into it. This raises a question. The human body uses its own energy and many believe that when we die we release energy and in fact the human soul is really a form of energy. If this is true, is this the dimension where we all go after death? I will drop that train of thought now because I don't want to get into the paranormal with this. So Hutchinson states that this energy dimension can supply us with unlimited energy to power all our devices. Lets call this the 5th dimension. The 3rd dimension being length, width, height and the 4th dimension being time.

In case you are wondering why I call time a dimension it is because many people feel that it is. When I interviewed the famous physicist, Dr. Mallett, who is building a time machine, he acknowledged that other dimensions may be involved with time. His thought was that if we could ever go back into time, we might land up in alternate dimensions that are almost like the past time on earth and if we did and changed something, it would not affect our future because these were alternate dimensions and therefore the paradox theory didn't apply. That is the theory that if you went into the past and killed your grandfather, you would never have been born, yet you are there to do that dirty deed. Time is something that we don't fully understand yet. I can't help but think and this is against most science, that there might be a dimension out there where there is no time. The question is, if there is no time could anything exist? Would something exist forever or not be able to exist at all? We will probably learn things about time in the future that will really surprise us. So we are calling time the 4th dimension.

We know that there are certain physical laws that apply to everything in our universe, at least this is what we believe now, but what if there was a place that had different physical laws. What if you dropped something and it went sideways instead of straight down, or did drop down but at an angle that was not 90 degrees? What if there was a place where instead of not being able to reach the speed of light, as Einstein states we can't, we couldn't go slower than the speed of light and people there would think that they were living a long life, but to us it wouldn't even last a second? Could such a place exist? Why not, just because the idea is totally foreign to us, doesn't mean that it would be impossible? Let's call this dimension the 6th dimension.

The idea of dimensions where every possible scenario is carried out and copies of us are in each one, is gaining popularity. It is called the multiverse. The idea is that if you make a certain decision to do something a certain way, there are other dimensions where you made different decisions and there are so many of these places that there is one for every decision you could have made and every decision that everyone around you could have made. Supposedly there are millions of these dimensions. We are told that if we went to any one of these and if our doubles were still alive in them, we could meet with them face to face. Years ago there was a television program about this, it was called Sliders and the premise was that several travelers would go to each one trying to get back to their earth, which they left and didn't have the coordinates for. Sometimes the worlds were so like earth that they thought that they were home until something happened to shatter their dream. I remember one like that where they were all so excited until the father of one of the travelers met them. On earth he had died. I don't know how we could ever number these dimensions, there would be so many of them?

The minimum amount of dimensions that string theorists think exist is ten. When we try and imagine dimensions with more dimensions than length, width and height, our brains go into what I call freeze mode. No matter how hard we think about it, it is almost impossible for us to picture. If there was a dimension that had Length, Width, Height and Gravis how could we picture this. First of all, what would Gravis be? That is the problem that not only we face, but the scientific community as a whole faces. They believe that there are other dimensions, but they can't imagine what they would be like. If we were equidistant from all points in a sphere and tried to move away from all of them at the same time, we couldn't, but are there dimensions where we could?

The question of dimensions is truly one that causes us a lot of trouble. Some scientists even say that other dimensions have to exist and yet can not imagine what they would look like or their properties. It just might turn out that these dimensions are just like this one and should really be called other universes. Probably none of us alive today will ever find out the answer to this perplexing problem, but it is certainly something to think about, isn't it?
