Every once in a while a software programs comes along that is very helpful in certain situations. What makes a program like this even better is when it is free.

I have been using a copy program called Total Copy for about a year now. This program is especially suited for people that copy large amounts of files every day. For instance I copy all the files in the About Facts Website every day because it is easier that just trying to copy the additional files and any changes I have made. I couldn't do this without Total Copy, well I could but it would take me at least 20 - 60 minutes.

Enter Total Copy. Total Copy is a shell extension. When you install it, it will become part of the menu that appears when you go to move a text file or folder, this is sometimes known as the right click menu. The first time you move a folder it will take about the same amount of time using Total Copy as it does using the copy command, but from that time on it shines. It only seems to replace the changes to the folder so instead of taking 20 - 60 minutes to copy my folder it now takes about 12-18 seconds. You can also stop and resume a copy session and also set the speed. Why anyone would not want to have the copy speed set at max is beyond me.

What I like about it other than the fact that it is fast on repeative copying of a large folder is also the fact that it doesn't modify the copy command so that is still available if there is a problem. But all is not a bed of roses. Sometimes I have had the program abort in the middle of copying. Fortunately this is not much of a bother when using total copy because you just copy the file again and it picks up where it left off.

Total Copy is a fine program. It is available for free on many sites, just run a Google search if you want it. So if you need a copy program that can copy massive amounts of files and especially copy the same folder over and over with the daily changes made to it, Total Copy is the program for you. By the way, it is supposed to work with just about any version of Windows.
