CROOKSTON CASTLE, SCOTLAND

SOURCE: All pictures by me

In 2000 I made a trip to Scotland and visited several castles. I had my trusty digital Afga with me and these pictures are the result. Crookston Castle was one of the most fascinating castles, not because of size, it was rather small, but because I and my brother-in-law were the only ones in it. There wasn't even a guide or guard. The castle is unfurnished so there is nothing to steal. As for the purposes of some of the rooms etc. it is mostly speculation on my part. We enjoyed climbing all over the castle even up on the roof, the only problem being I must be a lot bigger than the original inhabitants since I got stuck in the portal to the roof.

I took this picture from under the castle. The iron gate kept unwanted guests from sneaking in. This area may have been used as a dungeon at one time but there are no bars now.
Its hard to know what parts of the castle are missing. This seemed to be the main hall, notice the large fireplaces I guess they served for warmth and heating food.
This room was the bed chamber where the lord slept. I know this because there was a plaque on the wall.
On of the castle windows close to ground level. Note the bars.
Another barred window off of the main hal
Picture taken looking up at the rebuilt tower. The ruins are very visible. The castle is built on a very high hill. You don't realize it until you get on top of the tower. When on top of the tower you can overlook the entire town of Paisley
Here is another view looking up from a different side.
Back entrance door.
