The Incredible Nikola Tesla

I have written about Nikola Tesla before, but this incredible man deserves at least another article. Many believe that he is one of the top five poeple that ever lived and responsible for our modern way of life.

Nikola Tesla was an extremely interesting person, beside being the world's greatest electrical genius. Telsa worked for Edison for a time, but Edison was too jealous of him for this to last. The straw that broke the camels back was when Tesla proposed that the world use alternating current for its electrical needs, rather than the direct current that Edison was backing. I think it would be safe to say that Thomas Edison saw Nikola Tesla as the biggest threat to his superiority in the field of electricity and probably also in the field of inventions. Tesla never married, never had any relationships with women and had hardly any friends, although he did have a few acquaintances. He never owned a home, lived in hotels his whole adult life and believed in performing all his actions in multiples of three. He wouldn't even eat anything until he calculated its volume. Here he was, probably one of the greatest geniuses the world has ever seen and also one of the strangest. He would walk around the block three times before entering a building.

Tesla's father was a Serbian Orthodox church priest. There is a legend that states that on the night Nikola was born, a brutal electrical storm took place. Tesla's genius was recognized by magazines, the public and his peers. Even the great Einstein acknowledged him as an electrical genius. As the years went by he became more of a recluse and fell out of the public spotlight. People began to regard him as the mad scientist and he was even inserted into a comic as a mad scientist going against Superman. Was the great Tesla having mental problems? It is possible that he may have been so disturbed by the death of his 12 year old brother, that it left him partially mentally unbalanced. He even said that after his brother died, he developed a violent hate of women's earrings and also stated that he could not touch the hair of another person. Peaches caused him extreme discomfort. I am not talking about eating peaches, I am talking about just seeing peaches. He also suffered a mental breakdown while in college.

Lesser known experiments by Tesla, were those in time travel. He claimed that he found out that space could be warped, which would allow us to create a doorway through which we could go to other times. He went on to say that this was extremely dangerous. In 1895 a reporter for the New York Herald met Tesla in a café. Tesla told him that he had almost been killed that day. When pressed by the reporter to find out what had happened, Telsa told him that a spark jumped through the air and struck him in the right shoulder and that he believed that if it were not for his assistant turning off the electricity immediately, he might not have been in this café to tell the story of what happened. Here is the eerie part of what the reporter was told, Telsa said that he found that when the electricity hit him, he could see the immediate past, the present and the future all at once. He said that the problem was that he was paralyzed and could do nothing. Many people believe that this experiment was repeated and is now known as the Philadelphia experiment.

Apparently Tesla had discovered that there was more to electricity than we had suspected and more to it than we might even suspect today. Could there be some unknown nature to electricity that we have not yet explored? The funny thing about it, is that it is all around us. We find it in inanimate objects and we find it in living creatures. It is even produced by the very earth we live on. Is there a reason why we find it everywhere? It could be that electricity may turn out to be the key to such things as efficient space travel, life extension and it might even explain some paranormal experiences that people have had. Could it be that we ourselves, as electrical creatures, are not completely bound to our physical bodies as we believe we are. The hermit crab carries a shell with him to hide in. The shell is not part of him and is used for protection. Are we electrical creatures that use our physical bodies in a similar way. Some scientists now believe that the physical being may be able to be separated from the spiritual one. The spiritual one being electrical energy. Telsa had met with one of the first swamis to ever come to the United States and felt that there was much more to our existence than we suspected.

While there is not much evidence that states that Tesla was interested in the paranormal, it is interesting to note that Edison, who Telsa had worked for, spent years trying to develop a machine that could communicate with the dead, after Tesla left his employ. Edison denied later that when he told this to a reporter that he was telling the truth. He stated that he was only kidding when he told this to Forbes magazine. Since this denial took place many years later, there are those that believe that the reason that he said this was that he had not been successful in his experiments in this area. Today many paranormal investigators claim that they can record the voices of the dead under certain circumstances. These recordings are called EVP, which are electronic voice phenomenon. There is a saying that is attributed to Thomas Edison and that is the following, “I am inclined to believe that our personality hereafter will be able to affect matter, if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected by our personality as it survives in the next life. Such an instrument ought to record something.” Does this sound like a person that had no interest in trying to record the responses of the dead?

Whatever Tesla believed about the afterlife he kept close to the vest. Being the son of a priest he must have had some beliefs, one way or the other. Did he believe that electricity had something to do with the afterlife? I don't know. It is said that he spoke with spirits when he was on his deathbed. He did admit to having received signals from intelligent life on Mars, here is what he said, "Twenty-two years ago, while experimenting in Colorado with a wireless power plant, I obtained extraordinary experimental evidence of the existence of life on Mars. I had perfected a wireless receiver of extraordinary sensitiveness, far beyond anything known, and I caught signals which I interpreted as meaning 1--2--3--4. I believe the Martians used numbers for communication because numbers are universal."
