When I talk about the paranormal I am surprised about what people have to say about it. One branch of the paranormal that I have never discussed before has to do with people who claim that they are living happily and coexisting with spirits that are in their homes. Many people tend to think, when they hear the word paranormal and spirits in the same sentence, that there is something present that is evil. There are many people that will tell you that this is not the case and they believe that the presence of a spirit is no different than having another person in your home. They believe that spirits are people and that each one is unique and has a different personality. It turns out that there were quite a few people that believe that their homes are haunted. Some believe it, because they cannot account for strange occurrences that they have seen, others believe it, because family members have told him things that led them to believe it. Sometimes the things that have convinced people that their homes are haunted can be accounted for by natural occurrences, but sometimes they cannot. An example of a natural occurrence may be plates that keep falling off shelves. This might be caused by the rumbling of traffic going by, or even minor earthquakes. Another natural occurrence might be caused by automobile lights shining through windows causing shadows to constantly jump across a room .

How can you really be sure that houses are haunted? Well I guess one way to be sure would be to see a full-bodied apparition stand in front of you, but this would be a very rare occurrence. I say it is rare, but I do know people that claim that they have seen this. I know of one person who claims that they were down in their wash room and they saw the spirit of the husband's dead mother floating in the air directly in front of them, and it wasn't one person that saw this, it was both the husband and wife. Another person I know said that while they were in church they saw the full-bodied apparition of their deceased sister floating right in front of them, but apparently nobody else in the church could see this. I know the church is not a home, but I only mention it to illustrate the point that people have seen full-bodied apparitions. The experts in this field claim that it is more likely to see doors and windows that open and close by themselves. Things may move around the house on their own and sometimes extremely inky dark shadows may go across a dark room. These shadows are said to sometimes take the shape of a human being. Many other things can also happen, such as appliances being constantly unpluged when no one else is around.

Occasionally voices may be heard, but they could be coming from either outside or from a radio or television that was left on, so we have to be careful with this one. There is also the possibility that lights may flicker on and off without any reason to do so, such as bad wiring. Yes there are many unusual things that can happen around your home that might lead you to believe that you are not alone. I have heard of cases where animals will not go into one of the rooms in the house and they will resist, even if you try and drag them in there. There are plenty of cases on record with children telling their parents that they are playing with their invisible friends. Does this mean that they see something that you can't? The only way you could find this out would be to carefully question your child.

One lady told us about her experience with the ghost that she lives with. She was sleeping in a bed when she woke up to the sight of an elderly woman in a dress who was floating slightly in the air. The elderly woman had an unpleasant look on her face as she stared down at the woman in bed. The lady gathered up her courage and asked the ghost not to bother her. After a couple more appearances when the ghost was told the same thing, it disappeared and never came back. This was a case where a homeowner did not want to have a ghost sharing her home. It turns out that this lady had a previous home where a different ghost tried to annoy her and she had used the same technique to get rid of that one. It seems that if you stand your ground and tell ghosts to leave you alone that eventually, there is a good chance they will either leave, or just not bother you anymore.

On the other hand there is a story about a man that owned a castle. He had seen several ghosts in the castle and after many tries he was able to communicate with two of them. He found out that they were distant relatives of his and he began to look forward to their appearance. He claimed that he was actually able to hold a conversation with the two spirits. I don't know what he discussed, he probably asked them what it was like to be deceased, because that is one of the first questions that people usually ask. The next question usually pertains to why they are where they are. It has been said by some that they have found out from spirits that something holds that particular spirit to one area and they cannot escape from it. What this would be I have never heard. Although there are all sorts of theories on this and some say that ghosts are only people that can't find their way to the light for one reason or another. They also say that sometimes spirits that some spirits just like being part of a family. There are cases on record with spirits of children have been seen playing with a lot of children. There are other cases where children have been seen rolling a ball and somehow it gets pushed back to them and so forth.

One woman who claims she lived in a haunted home, stated that she would never want to leave “her friends”. The reference to her friends was a reference to several spirits that she claimed lived on the premises. If a house was truly haunted would it be good for a person to form a friendly relationship with the spirit? That is a question that has probably been asked for hundreds of years. A few hundred years ago, if anyone found out about something like this, you would have been burned at the stake for being a witch. Today things are a little different, most people would just think you were crazy and leave you alone, but those that believed you might be curious enough to come over, so they could see what was going on for themselves. We do live in a progressive society and while you will hear a lot of people say that there is no such thing as the paranormal, these are the same people that will privately admit that they have seen at least one thing that could have been paranormal.

Different surveys that have been taken indicate that far more than half of all Americans do believe in the paranormal. We are talking about a very large number of people, somewhere in the vicinity of 75 to 80%. At least that is what the surveys say. I have not read every survey of course. I also am not saying that I do believe in ghosts or spirits myself, but I do think that these things might deserve a little more investigation, just as we would investigate any other scientific phenomena. We are constantly learning that we are wrong about a lot of things and just maybe there is a lot more to the paranormal than some of us suspect.
