Ouija Boards are considered by many to be some sort of device that allows people to communicate with spirits. Some even say that it opens up a gateway to the world on the other side. The other side being the dark world where some believe that our souls reside after death. Supposedly the board works this way, people, usually several, put their hands on a pointer device, sometimes called a planchette, at the same time. The device then moves to spell out words. All of the participants will state that they didn't push the pointer around. So how does this device move? Some say that people push it unconsciously, others say that the movement comes from even deeper in the body, from an area that we don't even know exists. They think that it could be our soul that is getting involved with the board.

There are many strange tales that are associated with Ouija Boards. Some of these tales are unexplainable, as the people who were involved would be more than glad to let you know. There are some people who believe that Ouija Boards are evil devices and that they really open a doorway to some demonic dimension. Could Ouija Boards have been put here to hurt mankind or allow evil spirits to come to the earth? As I said, there are some people that believe precisely this.

There are many people who report experiences with Ouija Boards. One such experience occurred when several people got together and decided to try and use one of these boards. The gathered around a board and put their hands on the pointing devices and asked the board to tell them if spirits were in the room with them. Immediately the pointer device moved to the word yes. They were startled to say the least and they began to accuse each other of moving the pointer on purpose to the yes on the board. Each person in turn denied that they have moved the pointer on purpose. This is reported as often happening with the first use of the Ouija Board. People just can't believe that the pointer is not being guided by one of the participants. They tried it again and again it went to the yes. The people asked if the spirit was a man or woman and again the pointer started to move and spelled out male. The pointer didn't stop at that, it began to spell out a man's first name. At this point the person who lived in the home got very nervous. She said that the name that was spelled out was the name that everyone in the house jokingly called a ghost that was said to live there.

One person told a story of how he and his little friends, all about 8 years old or less, got hold of a Ouija Board. Apparently they had seen it operate when the adults had used it. They took the board to one kid's home who's parents were out and put it on the kitchen table. They now began to try and get the pointer to move. None of them knew what any of them had asked for since it was never said out loud, but something happened that scared them terribly. As the pointer began to move, a pair of eyes began to float around the room. The eyes were sort of in the center of what seemed to be a dark cloud. As one child noticed it and screamed, the others looked up and saw the eyes. The rest screamed as they all scrambled for the door. They were now running for their lives. Out the front door of the house they ran until they felt they were far enough away to avoid trouble. As they looked back at the house, it seemed to shimmer and move, prompting each child to run home in a panic.

Can a spirit use a Ouija Board? According to one account, a group of teenage boys decided to go on a camping trip. One of the boys got hold of a Ouija Board and included it in the supplies he brought with him. The boys had brought a tent, two portable lamps, sleeping bags and assorted utensils like a hunting knife and a compass, they also brought an assortment of soft drinks and snacks, along with a cooler full of ice. They all came from a rural southern area and were well versed in the woods near where they lived. Because of this and the fact that the youngest was already 17 years old, their parents had allowed the overnight trip. Once they set up the tent and laid out the sleeping bags, they began to joke around. It was at this point that the boy with the Ouija Board took it out, opened it up and placed the pointing device on the board. The others laughed and asked him what he was going to do with that? To their horror, before he could answer, the pointer began to move on its own. All eyes were glued on the board as the pointer began to move faster and faster. If it was spelling out anything it couldn't be recognized because the pointer was now moving much to fast to read any letters. The boys ran out of the tent and into the tree cover. They watch the tent with bulging eyes. It started to shake then tent stakes started to pop out of the ground until the tent lay flat on the dirt. Just when they had decided to start walking back to the tent, they heard a terrible sound. A hole had opened up under the tent and sucked the tent and its contents down into it and closed. That was the end of the trip for the boys who beat a hasty path back to their homes.

The idea of what many call a talking board was born in the U.S., in the 19th century. Today Parker Brothers produces the biggest selling Ouija Board. Edgar Cayce, the sleeping prophet, said that Ouija Boards were actually dangerous. Some religious people state that they let in evil demons who pretend to be our friends so that they can catch us off guard. Some people who are experienced with Ouija Boards claim that they have had bad experiences because of their use of these boards. What kind of bad experiences are we talking about here? They claim that they are now haunted by evil spirits or that demons taunt them. Lest you think that everyone feels this way, there are still many people that think Ouija Boards are just a simple toy.
