Sometimes things happen on this Earth of ours that there doesn't seem to be an explanation for. This doesn't mean that there is no explanation, just that we don't know what it is. An example of this is when large numbers of mammals beach themselves and die. I am not familiar with how the brain of a water going mammal works, but one has to think that they know by throwing themselves up on a beach that this is not good. I don't want to say that they know that they will die, because it is said that only man is able to understand this. I sometimes wonder about this however. I remember when Koko, the gorilla, was taught sign language and was asked what death was and she replied that death was being put into a warm hole. Did she really understand? Maybe we will find out what animals do understand, but for now I guess we will have to assume that they don't know about death. In 1998 Koko was on a chat room on AOL. The exact date was April 27th. Koko's mentor is Dr. Patterson and she was with Koko during the chat. When Koko was asked if she realized that she was chatting with thousands of people, she replied yes.

Back to what I was talking about. For some unknown reason, masses of clams appeared off the coast of Malaysia. You would think that it is really hard for clams to get around but these did. The Malaysian authorities got worried because this clam appearance might portend some sort of natural disaster. As if this wasn't enough, a few days later large numbers of sea cucumbers washed up on beaches in the area. The clam fishermen got quite a catch. Sometimes there is just no explaining nature. Things like underwater earthquakes get marine life to move to other locations. Predators also chase fish and get them so scared that they jump out of the water or move to other areas.

Now for something out of the weird. There are quite a few people around who claim that they have seen other people and object appear out of thin air. Some might say that they would like to know what they were smoking at the time, but these people insist that they were quite sober and not on any drugs or subject to any type of mental illness. One person has a story that they were standing outside of a building and they saw the same woman enter the building twice. This reminds me of a pair of identical twins I knew. Both men were quite grown up but loved to dress exactly the same and they looked so much alike that you really couldn't tell the difference between them, even when close up. So could this have been the case, or was an even simpler explanation possible, such as the women went into the building, and either came out another way and re-entered or came out the same way unnoticed and re-entered.

But these cases are not always this easy to explain, especially when several people swear to the same facts. Take the case of the huge ufo in Mexico City several years ago. Thousands of people saw this huge machine hovering over an apartment building. Movies of the object were taken as well as many still photographs. Everyone who saw it is convinced that it was a true alien craft. They got a very good look at it since is was so low down and hovered for so long. I have seen people try and dispute this sighting, but these were people who weren't there and could never explain how so many people saw it and got such wonderful videos of it. It is simply not enough to say it was a hoax or some type of plane and think that you have proven anything.

There are also people who insist that they have seen objects appear and disappear. Sometimes the objects they claim to have seen do this are quite ordinary. For example there is a couple of people that swear that one of them had his car keys in his hand and they just dematerialized into nothingness in front of both of them. Still others claim that ordinary things have appeared from no where, they just materialized in front of them. Could it be that someone is just playing tricks here? Any magician can make thing seem to appear and disappear, so even people that are sincere may have been the victims of a hoax or joke. Many times, during a seance, things would appear, they were called apports. It seems the mediums liked to have objects appear because they felt it gave them more credibility.

Appearances related to religion are relatively more common. Throughout history people have reported seeing angels, saints, the devil, demons and even their deceased loved ones. Some of these appearances are hard to deny since so many people either witnessed them or some event followed to prove that they were genuine. One that comes to mind is Fatima. Over ten thousand people saw the sun come close to the earth and then recede back. This was the site where the Virgin Mary appeared to the three children. How do you explain something like this? How could so many people see this event? I have no suitable answer. Oh some will say it was an alien trick because when something is not understood, there are always those that blame the aliens, but others receive this as a matter of faith. I think far too many things are blamed on aliens, aliens that we don't even know exist.

Last, but not least, are ghosts. Many people have claimed to have seen ghosts materialize out of nothing. Some also claim that they could feel the presence of this spirit or even hear it talk. Recordings have been made that are supposedly the voices of ghosts recorded on tapes. When you talk about ghosts, there is a group of people who believe almost anything and a group of people that believe nothing, with a group in the middle that are not sure. As for myself, I am not a believer, but neither am I one who would scream and holler that anything to do with ghost sightings is a fraud. I sort of mind my own business. Of all the cases I have seen and read about, nothing has convinced me. I do have a theory however and I think I will tell it to you. I believe that nature may in some way record events and be capable of playing some of them back. Sounds crazy doesn't it. Think of it this was, maybe some thing in a certain type of rock retains an image of something that passed it, if all circumstances were right. Now imagine that at a certain time of the day or when the sun or moon is in the right place and/or at the right distance, it plays back a small movie of the events it recorded. Everyone who would see this would think they saw a ghost, wouldn't they? This might explain why so many people claim to have seen marching Roman soldiers in the catacombs.

So as you can see, there seem to be natural appearances, extraterrestrial appearances, religious appearances and paranormal appearances. Have you caught any of them lately?
