Did you just sit down? Could there be another person who looks just like you sitting in the same chair, in the same house, on the same street, in the same city? Maybe, he could be you in a parallel universe. Some scientists are beginning to accept the theory of parallel universes. So what exactly is a parallel universe? The Parallel Universe is defined many different ways since there are different theories about it. One definition states that it is another universe which can also be called an alternate dimension. It is a hypothetical universe existing on a separate plane from ours. It is hypothetical because we don't have any proof that it exists yet, just supposition. But there are other theories that state that there are many different universes, one for every event that could have happened. For example if you were asked to attend a movie then there would be two different outcomes. One outcome is that you go and one is that you decline. In one universe you would go and in another you wouldn't. This might mean that universes go on to infinity.

Some people argue that the only reason that life exists on Earth and everything is just right for this life to exist is that there are millions or billions of other parallel universes that contain an Earth where life didn't make it and we just happen to live in the one where it did. So their basic argument is that there is a universe for every contingency as I stated above.

There are some theories that time travel is somehow connected to parallel universes. The idea is that if you could use time travel, it really wouldn't take you back in time, but it would take you to a parallel universe that is existing in the time period specified. You would see all the same people you expected to see, but they would be parallel universe people, of course you would have no way of knowing this. To you, the trip back in time would be just that, but you would still be in the current time in a different location. This idea is not the most popular in time travel however, it is just one of several theories. I only mention it because it deals with the subject at hand.

If anyone here has ever seen the show Sliders, it explains parallel universes better than I ever could. One of the most famous paradoxes in time travel is the grandfather paradox. That is the one where if you killed your own grandfather before you were born, then you wouldn't be born. But this wouldn't hold true if you were traveling to a parallel universe and thus it would solve this paradox. The reason for this is that while you might kill your grandfather in that universe, your grandfather in your universe would still be alive, so it wouldn't effect you existence.

A famous foreign news paper is stating that the military of several countries is experimenting with using parallel universes for stealth. While I find this hard to swallow, I will tell you what they are saying. They state that it has been found out that this is the way ufos appear and disappear. If they could solve this puzzle, then they could disappear and then reappear over a target. You would go into a parallel universe and fly to the exact spot where you want to appear in your universe and then reappear. Simple isn't it? Not really, but that is what they are talking about. One of the reasons I find this questionable besides us lacking the technology and proof for parallel universes, is the fact that if we could go to parallel universes than we could put that to so much better use. Imagine if we could form alliances between governments of the same parallel countries. Some might be more advanced than us, giving us access to so many other useful things. They would also make great tourist attractions wouldn't they?

Sometimes places on this planet are said to be portals to a parallel universe. People refer to them as places where mysterious vortexes exist. There is one such place in Sedona, Arizona. Sometimes the paranormal is said to be not a haunting, but the overlapping of two parallel universes or dimensions. An example of this is Gettysburg Penn. This area is said to be one of the most haunted in this country. I guess any area where many thousands of people were killed would fall into this category, but many people claim to have seen Civil War solders in the area and even heard them talk. One explanation for this is that it is an area where there is some sort of entrance to a parallel universe that we don't yet understand. In that parallel universe, the war is still going on. If you subscribe to this theory, how do you explain the fact that people have been seeing ghosts for many years in the area but the war went on for only four plus years? Maybe on this particular parallel world the war never ends.

So what do you think, are there parallel universes? It is such a mystery as to how our own universe was formed that anything is possible. Oh some will say that all the material compressed until it became the big bang, but I say, where did this material come from in the first place? It seems that if we eliminate God from the equation then we have no explanation at all. Our brain likes to believe that everything started someplace, but how could the universe have started if at some point there was nothing? This means that there must have always been something, but how could that have been? Well think that over and if you find an answer let me know.
