Do you ever get tired of being scared by articles that cite different people, that some accept as prophets, who are predicting dates for disasters? It might be the end of the world or the destruction of a country or countries, but there is always someone willing to write an article giving some of us only a short period of time to live. There is one good thing about these gloom and doom predictions, they are never right! For those of you that have read the recent article in the scandal weekly about Edgar Cayce predicting several nuclear explosions in U.S. cities and the attack on U.S. bases by the Russians and Chinese in August of this year, take heart. Cayce was wrong so many times that a book was written by his son detailing some of his mistakes. The title of the book is "The Outer Limits of Edgar Cayce's Power" This is the same man that saw in a vision, that 1933 was going to be a very good year, when in fact it was one of the worst years of the great depression. Sure some of his prophetesses may be true, I say may, because of the language they are couched in it is hard to be sure with many of them. I know one thing for sure, when he predicted that China would be Christian by 1968 he couldn't have been further off base or when he said that we would find a death ray from Atlantas in 1958 . Cayce also predicted that a huge solar storm would hit the earth in the year 2000 and winds of over 1000 miles per hour would kill millions of people. I liked Edgar Cayce, he never seemed to be in it for the money, but as far as his accuracy goes in predicting great disasters, I will not pack up my things and leave on his say so and I don't think that you should either. Through the ages there have been many prophetesses of world or country disaster. People all over the world were scared to death waiting for the year 1,000. It was commonly thought that this was the year that would be the end of all time. Supposedly the second coming was to take place and the heavens and earth were to be destroyed. As the people waited, trembling, the new milinium came into being without a wimper, hardly noticed at all. The world didn't end, Jesus didn't show up and people just proceeded with their normal lives. Who knows how many people died of heart attacks as they waited in anticipation of the coming events? Even then, this was nothing new, disasters and the end of the world had been predicted before. When the year 2000 was about to dawn upon us, some people were shaking in their boots. Many predictions had been made about what was going to happen to the world when we entered the second milinium. I bet most people don't realize that some people were very scared because they felt that 2000 divided by 3 gives 666, a sign of the devil. Actually it gives 666.66666+ so they really had nothing to worry about. A bible code was found that foretold of a great nuclear hocaust in the year 2000, but later its date was changed to 2006. Hey if it doesn't work out, change it and try again! A person who supposedly saw many visions of the Virgin Mary stated that we only had until 1998 to change our ways and that we are being given a second chance because the world was ending in the year 2000. A famous magazine ran an article about the Bethlehem Prophecies. It actually stated that the prophecies said that almost everyone on earth will die of a disease by the year 2000. Doom sells a lot of magazines and papers I guess. I like the prediction that stated that in the year 2000 Satan will become a public figure. Hey maybe he did, there are so many candidates. One person predicted that the Y2K bug, the computer problem where old programs couldn't display the year 2000, would end the world. They said it would bring on electrical problems and some how this would bring the anti Christ to earth. Yeah sure, the battery burned out in my flash light and opened a tear in the fabric of space. In the year 2000 there were the famous angel sightings, thousands of them. Many thought that it was the end for all of us. I don't know what they saw, but we are still here. A prophet predicted in the year 2000 that over 4 billion people would die unless they converted to the Roman Catholic faith. Another prophet predicted that Jesus would come in the year 2000 and end the world in 2003. Oh there are so many more of these predictions, just too many to list here. The last part of this article is devoted to Nostradamus because no article on phrophecy can ever be complete with the most famous prophet of them all. I think that one of the things that makes Nostradamus so famous is the fact that he wrote in quatrains. A quatrain was a form of writing that disguised much of the meaning of what was written. I personally think that most of what people think of as phrophesy by Nostradamus can mean almost anything. Well be that as it may, here are what some people believe are predictions he made: World War 3, the last war will be a fight to the death between Christianity and Islam. The Islamic community in the world will be eliminated after the year 2000. The Vatican will also end in the year 2000 as will all the Christians. 1 billion two hundred million people will die. Is this what Nostradamus really said or was this made to fit nicely into today's situation? Ah that is the problem with all of his quatrains .Maybe this quatrain really said, "I had a ham sandwich for luch and it was good." Looking at the rest of the so called prediction, China, Indai will not be involved. It is said that Nostradamus predicted that the world would end in 1997. This means that he has differing predictions. If this is true he should be reported the the society of prophets for unethical behavior. So here we see that gloom and doom predictions have been going on for a long time and some predictions may not even mean what some people think that they do. Next time you see one of these predictions please take it with the proverbal grain of salt. Graphics by Clipart.com |
