Did you ever wonder how the people of Germany could have elected Hitler as their Chancellor in 1933? The answer was that he was not elected. He was appointed as Chancellor by the President, Paul von Hindenburg, when his party won about 33% of the seats in the 1932 election. There was never an election in Germany where the Nazis ever won a majority and yet they were able to take over the country.
Did you ever notice that when meteors enter our atmosphere and become meteorites they heat up and burn. What many people do not know is that they are usually cool when they land. The reason for this is that all of the outer shell is usually blown off and the inside doesn't have a chance to heat up before it lands.
Time Warner got itself caught in a storm of protests. They had established a program where they would meter Internet use and set caps. When people went over the usage caps, they were charged extra money. This apparently infuriated their customers, who then contacted their congressmen and senators and launched thousands of complaints against the company. The politicians began to take pot shots at the company and finally the company decided to drop the metering. AT&T has a metering program going in a couple of test areas, but they are still doing it. Will AT&T become the most hated cable provider in the country?

There are many publications that state that air travels at the same speed over the top and bottom of an airplane's wing. Nothing could be further from the truth, even though you may see it in a pilot's manual. The truth is that the air on the top of the wing has to travel faster which lowers the pressure on the upper wing, thus giving lift to the plane.
It is beginning to look like one of the answers to free energy will be solar panels built into roads. This is looking so promising that the Department of Energy just awarded a small contract to a tiny company named solar Roadways. The company is developing 12 X12 foot solar panels that are called Solar Roads. These will be embedded into roads and send power to the grid. An extra benefit might be that the panels could have built in heating to prevent the roads from freezing and LED road warning sighs. Each mile of roadway could support the electrical needs of 500 homes.

Thomas Edison is said to have invented the light bulb. He really didn't invent it, but he did invent a practical light bulb. In other words he improved it. The inventor of the light bulb was Sir Joseph Wilson Swan, who was an English physicist and chemist. He received the patent for the incandescent light bulb in 1878. His home was the first to be light by incandescent light. Paris held an exhibition in 1881 and Swan's bulbs lit it.
Hitler and the Nazis are always getting credit for designing the Autobahn. The truth of the matter is that they didn't do it. It was designed 20 years before the Nazis came into power and construction began a year before Hitler was chancellor of Germany. Hitler was not beyond taking credit for it.
A lot of people think that if an earthworm is cut in two, it will become two worms. The truth is that the part with the mouth can survive, but the rest of the worm will either starve or dry out.
Sushi really does not refer to raw fish. The term for raw fish is sashimi. Sushi refers to the way the rice is prepared. It is rice with a vinegary dressing. Toppings on this rice can include either raw or cooked seafood, or vegetarian toppings.
You know all those movies and drawings of Vikings wearing helmets with horns on them? They are wrong. Horned helmets were not suitable for battle. I don't think you would want the enemy grabbing you by the horns and such. It is thought that this idea came from a romantic idea of Vikings, put forward in the 19th century in Scandinavia
I don't know how many times I have heard the fact that one human year is equal to seven dog years. The average human lives 78 years. If the average dog's life space was calculated as 7 dog years equal one human year, the average life span for a dog would be 90 dog years. Not only that, but different dog breeds have different life spans. The averages in human years can be from 6 years to 13 years, or more. Dogs have a short childhood and a very long middle age.
There is a saying that no two countries that contain McDonald's franchises have ever gone to war. This is false as witnessed by Russia and Georgia going to war and Israel and Lebanon. Serbia was bombed by NATO and even though NATO is not a country, both Serbia and the NATO countries contain McDonald's franchises.
St Bernard Dogs have been pictured carrying brandy in small barrels around their neck. Supposedly this is to give to lost travelers who are freezing. The truth is that they never carried alcohol, because this can be very bad for hypothermia and make the person worse. The monks at the hospice in the St Bernard Pass do admit that they have a few flasks around that they put on the dogs so that the tourists can take photos.
Oh the poor Scots, it looks like many things that are attributed to them are not really Scottish. Kilts were first worn by the Vikings. Haggis was around way before the Scots and was mentioned in the Odyssey by Homer, but called by a different name. Bagpipes came from the Hittites in what is modernTurkey.
When you shave, some say that you are causing the hair to grow back thicker and courser. This is not true. It does feel that way, but only because the hair that has never been cut has tapered ends. When the hair is cut, the taper is gone and the hair will feel thicker
