We keep hearing about scary facts. There are a lot of theories out there and a lot of what I like to call, scares. If one were to read everything that they could about us and the Earth, they would be bound to come across all the details of our doom, our enslavement, the visitors that are out to get us and assorted other details. It does seem that gloom and doom are very popular today. As I have said previously, just look at what is being shown on television. If you are a fan of the History Channel, then you must have at least heard of the shows that talk about large meteors hitting the Earth. They claim that we are “DUE”. What a nice thing to tell the viewing public. There is nothing like picking a method of destruction, that there is really nothing we can do about, or can we? Many of these types of shows talk about the exotic things we can do to the meteor to make it miss us, but never blow it up, oh no! Again we are told that this would produce a shot gun effect with hundreds of smaller meteors peppering us and doing even more harm, if they are too big to burn up. As if this wasn't bad enough, we are told that there is a giant Tsunami just waiting to flood the US. Somewhere in the ocean is a land mass just waiting to slip into the sea that would send one of these monster waves around the world. Ouch! I better move away from the coast, but that may not be the answer, because the Big One is coming. The Big One is a devastating earthquake that will set off all the other faults and volcanoes around the Pacific Rim. We are told that there are many of these volcanoes just waiting to erupt. They don't scare the Floridians, they have their own problems, because they are being told that the hurricanes are getting more severe and the big hurricanes will be coming. This has scared some people so much down there, that the property values of homes in certain storm prone areas have fallen considerably. We are also being told that we better get out our sun tan lotion, because the ozone hole is letting in a lot of cosmic rays and such. Not only that, but the Earth is warming up and water is drying up. On this note, they are probably correct. There is much evidence that water is drying up all over the earth. We are lucky in the US, because we possess a huge amount of fresh water in the Great lakes, but they are shrinking too. Remember that meteor I spoke about? As if that wasn't enough, we are being told that we have to watch out for comets crashing into the Earth and if one is headed our way, we can not do anything about it, because it is too massive. Along with this we are told that if a star goes supernova and is too close to the Earth, the X-rays it emits will peal off the Earth's atmosphere. Wow there is no sense even living is there? 2012 is being called the last year of our existence. Why? Because ancient races picked this year for bad things or so I am told. Isn't it incredible that they could foresee the future? What you don't think that they could? So then why is anyone worried about this? I keep asking myself that question. Oh you think the aliens told them, okay! That brings me to some other forecasts that are out there that are supposedly not very good for us. Some people are saying that we are being raised for food by the aliens and that is why we have such a high disappearance rate of humans on this planet. Yes millions do disappear every year, but when they are found, if they are, it is too late to effect the statistics. War claims its share of the missing as does accidents and such, and even dementia. There are plenty of people that state that aliens are out to do us no good. I like the theory that states that aliens are creating hybrids because the human race is doomed. I don't quite understand why create hybrids and not just move humans, but there you are. There are predictions all over the place that claim that we humans are going to destroy ourselves in wars. Now that one I might believe. As we develop more powerful weapons, it may become possible to actually shatter our own planet, if we were stupid enough and unfortunately I am sure that it wouldn't be hard to find some religious zealot who wouldn't mind wiping out the human race so that he can can go to paradise. There is plenty of gloom and doom to go around folks. Take a look at another program on the History Channel, it is about after man disappears. I never did catch what happened to the human race, maybe they never told you, but it is an ominous thought. The show goes on to show us how all traces of our existence will disappear in a few thousand years except for the pyramids, Mt. Rushmore and one or two other objects. It then goes on to say that even the Great Pyramid will be buried under the sand someday. Now I personally wouldn't care about this since everyone would be gone anyway, but this idea is very unsettling to some people. As a matter of fact the show seems to indicate that apes will rule the Earth. They must have seen the old movie with Charleston Heston. Bring back the Brady Bunch, they never talked of such things. Neither did Mr. Wizard and he knew everything. Of course there was no History Channel then and there were only channels 2,4,5,7,8,11 and 13 in my area and they were free. Maybe this is the problem, there was plenty of programming to go around for all the existing stations. Could it be that with the hundreds of stations that exist now, each one is studying how to steal the audience from the other and the History Channel has hit upon a formula that states that scaring the public with disasters will get them to monitor the History Channel more often, so that they know what might be headed this way? I certainly hope that this isn't true, because it would be such a cheap shot. I have a better proposal, get more interesting programs. Its the History Channel folks, how about history programs? If you want to show all this disaster stuff, then you should be called the Disaster Channel. |
