Are The Drug Companies Killing Us For Profit?

I have talked about this before, but it is so important that it deserves an article dedicated to it. What I am talking about is how our current system of drug development and sale hinders us from ever getting drugs that will cure any serious disease. Profit is everything with a company, especially an American company that demands immediate return on its investments for its stockholders. While many foreign companies look at the long view, that is where you continuously make something better and not make as much, knowing that in the future it will pay off by allowing you to sell a superior product, we go for the shortsighted view of grab as much profit now and the future will take care of itself. We all know by now that this doesn't work. Just look at what is happening to our auto industry. With drug companies it is different. They want to put us all on maintenance pills. Never mind the cures, never mind the fact that people will die because these drugs all seem to have harmful side effects and never mind the fact that the cost is draining the economy and helping to make health care totally unaffordable for millions upon millions of people.

We see the big oil companies being able to hold back progress on alternate forms of energy. They have succeeded at this for many generations. It is only now that cracks are starting to appear in their shield. The same is true for the drug companies. Many books have been written that talk about cures being shelved and hidden from us because they are not profitable. Many people even suspect that we have already cured cancer, but we will never be allowed to take that cure. Why? The reason is all economic. If I sell you a pill to cure cancer, even if it is $10,000 for one pill, it still doesn't generate anything near how much I make as a drug company selling you maintenance pills for you disease over a period of years. This may sound harsh, but think of it this way. The tobacco companies knew that cigarettes killed, way back in at least the 1920s. They had conducted tests and yet they had no problem selling these things and still sell them today. Do they care that their product is generating a profit at the cost of people's lives?

A survey from 2005 that was taken randomly in the U.S. shows that 27% of the people surveyed thought that a cancer cure was being hidden from us. You have to remember the war on cancer, as it was called, began over 30 years ago and yet, supposedly there is no cure. There is a story about a lab in a medical school where a cancer proof mouse was found. It was injected several times with powerful cancer cells and yet, it never got cancer. The story goes on to state that the mouse had over 800 offspring that were also cancer proof and the immunity was transferable to other animals by infusion of white blood cells. It was felt that the immunity was due to a gene in the body of the mice. Humans and mice are said to share many genes and yet it was said that no genetic study was done. Another story states that there are some people who exhibit a strong ability to kill cancer cells and yet where are the genetic studies on these people?

Could it be that a cure could be found using genetic studies and cancer would disappear? Most people don't realize what I am about to tell you, but most doctors are not allowed to profit from drug sales, but there is one very big exception and that is cancer doctors. They ARE allowed to keep the profit from chemotherapy drugs. This makes chemotherapy a very profitable business and one that many of them would like to hold on to. I am not saying that all doctors would stand in the way of a cancer cure, but human nature being what it is, I am sure that some wouldn't want to give up their profitable business of selling these drugs to people. It is very simple, no more cancer, no more chemotherapy and no more profits from chemotherapy drugs. This situation leads to other questions such as, is chemotherapy being over prescribed? Could it be that some people that have had their cancer removed with radiology really don't benefit from chemotherapy and maybe it even harms them?

Some drug companies have reported that their anti-cancer drugs have driven up their profits over 50%. Wow that means that cancer drugs could account for one third or more of their entire profit margin. Do you really think that any drug company would want to give up profits like this by putting a cancer cure on the market. It seems to me that if they could invent a pill that completely cures cancer, but had to be taken daily to keep you cancer free, that would be their holy grail. Aside from this happening, the only other way a cancer cure would get on to the market is if some government lab came up with the cure and was able to be kept bribe free. Again look at the oil companies. They managed to buy up every form of new battery that came out over the years, thus preventing electric cars and even when they finally were released in limited numbers years ago, they exerted enough pressure to have all the cars taken away from everyone and it didn't matter what company the cars were from. This happened even with foreign cars. The drug companies are at least this powerful. This leads me to believe that if any private lab came up with a cancer cure, the lab would be bought out and the cure would be shelved. One company which I won't name, had their profits TRIPLE due to their new cancer maintenance drugs.

I think that we can all see what is happening if we stop and really look. We are all being put on Cholesterol maintenance drugs, rather than any cures coming out for high Cholesterol. We are being put on high blood pressure drugs rather than any cures coming out for high blood pressure, we are being put on thyroid drugs rather than a cure for thyroid problems coming out. The drug industry is hell bent on getting every one in the world on some sort of maintenance, where a daily pill will be required. It is about time that someone notices this and the government steps in. After all, the health of the American people is being put at risk all for the sake of money. At least when our pockets are being picked by the oil companies they are not forcing us to take medicines that might be harmful in the long run.
